Hey...I've seen some other threads talk about different networking issues, but nothing really like what's happening to my brother and I.
So, we both have Armada II. We both have Fleet Ops (same versions, yes
. When we go to multiplayer, if either one of us tries to host, the game comes back with:
"Cannot connect to the LAN via TCP/IP."
"Cannot connect to the LAN via IPX."
"Cannot connect to Manual IP."
"Could not connect to a Gamespy Server."
Now, I have no idea why it would do this. Every other part of the game works fine. We're connected to the Internet, I opened all the ports the troubleshooting asked me to, and I'm completely out of ideas. Anybody's help or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

warp: No, I don't. :-/ I use AVG and Windows Firewall, and Windows already knows not to touch it.
baron: Thanks.
I can't think of what firewall would be doing it. Or rather, what I haven't done to the firewall to allow it.

exactly the same as me
if you cant connect by manual IP, then there must be something wrong with your install, try reinstalling from fresh.

hmm you could try the following:
start->run->enter cmd
a black window will appear: enter now ping " "(space) and then the IP adress of your friend; if it says timeout something on the way from your PC to your friends one is blocking you!

I figured rather than posting a new topic I'd just revive this one as it doesn't appear to have ever been resolved and I'm in the same situation. My wife and I have played classic Armada II together for years (though it's always been glitchy/temperamental). Well our son is getting into it too now so I got a new (old) computer fired up with windows 7 (32 bit) to run another copy. Got it working, but not multiplayer. I scoured the internet and at various sites was recommended here. So I downloaded just the 1.2 patch to no success. I'd played the original Armada II to death so I figured it was high-time to try out your impressive mod so I went through all the steps to get it installed and patched all the way and it runs fine but... now not only does multiplayer not work for the Windows 7 machine, now neither of our two older PCs (Windows XP service pack 3) machines can play either the original version or Fleet Operations multiplayer. As with the original poster, it comes up with:
"Cannot connect to the LAN via TCP/IP."
"Cannot connect to the LAN via IPX."
"Cannot connect to Manual IP."
"Could not connect to a Gamespy Server."
And yes, I tried all the suggestion made on this topic and I have confirmed no trouble at all pinging the other IP addresses so any assistance in this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Quite the resurrection
Some ideas, since I've never seen this bug before -
Do games appear white that are being hosted?
Have you tried testing with a computer not within your wireless network?
Can you host a game or does it create this message upon attempting to do so?
Have you tried installing a VPN protocol - like Tunngle (which the FO community uses) or Hamachi, or Wippien and testing there?

No, I see no games being hosted.
We're not using a wireless network - all ethernet LAN.
And no, I can't host a game because, yes, we get the message when we try to host (from any of the 3 PCs).
No, I haven't tried Tunngle etc. yet. as I just didn't figure I'd need another protocol for a simple 3-player LAN set-up, but if there are no other options, I may give that a shot eventually.

Yes, I misspoke - I just meant on the same network, it doesn't matter if it's ethernet or wireless
I'd also try going onto Gamespy or Manual IP and at least seeing if you can host a game there.
EDIT: another idea, have you tried to host when both of the other computers are off? I wonder if there is some IP conflict or something.

O.k. I was able to get it working by hosting (via the internet/manual IP method) from the Windows 7 machine (any other way still doesn't work).
Thanks for the help.

If you don't see the Horst, then you possibly block the Microsoft Direct Play 8 Server.
This is used to publish the Game Info in a Lan.
Look in your Firewall settings and allow the Network access for the Server.
C:WindowsSysWOW64dpnsvr.exe (for x64)
C:WindowsSystem32dpnsvr.exe (for x32)
Afer that i see the Games in my Network.

That makes sense about Windows 7, Microsoft always seemed to have a problem with people using their older operating systems to host things.

My roommate and I are having a rather odd problem trying to start a local FO game. When either of us tries to host a game, FO hangs, then crashes to the desktop. I tried all the other hosting options and the same thing happens. The odd thing is that instant action works just fine. Wired ethernet network, firewalls have FO allowed, not using Norton or AVG. He's on XP, I'm using Windows 7-64 bit. Any suggestions on a solution? (Or is the 64 bit vs the 32 bit system?)
