Does the AI awaits completion before going on in the AIP?

The title says it all: When the AI starts building something, will it await until that particular thing is complete, or as soon as it started building it, it will start building what's in the next line of the AIP file?

I've seen it both ways K_merse. On some things as soon as the AI starts building something, say station1 or a ship then you can watch another constructor go off to build station 2 or a ship in another yard begin building. However, I've also seen it wait until said item completes.
More often than not though I think it's when the next line "starts" building then the line after that can begin. In my work to get the AI to be a little better it's been a challenge to get it to build as quickly as possible because of this.

The AI does not wait. As soon as one item either exists or is queued up, it will move to the next line.
So for example, in Tryptic's Mod when I want the game to finish Chassis Level 2 before building Akiras, I made the order Chassis 2 > Improved Shields > Akira. Since the SF Engineering needs to finish Chassis 2 before it can start Improved Shields, the AI can never build the Akira without its prerequisite.
I have observed that construction ships seem to be an exception to this rule, and a single ship can have multiple structures in its queue while the AI moves to the next item in its list

Makes sense so building construction doesn't prevent fleet development.
