when i've played 1v2 2v3 2v4 3v3 games it just closes to desktop with the tray icon and mouse pointer things still running. i sometimes play with unlimited resources but i've played plenty of times with normal and it always within about 20-40 minutes into game closes to the desktop. no error message or anything. now and then i get through a full game without it crashing but mostly in 1v1 games. i've read all other topics in technical before posting and couldn't find anything that helped. i always close background apps before playing, i do that anyway with any game. i use avg antivirus and sygate firewall which i close before playing. any help would be appreciated and soz if i'm being repetitive with a crash topic lol thanks again

ok will do next time it crashes, just after i posted last night i played a 2v2 game with 2 feds(me and AI medium) v 2 borgs (AI hard and AI easy) and it didnt crash but bit of a lag once the big battles were going this was prob cos of the amount of ships on screen. next time the game crashes i'll put the log file in here.

sounds like you are running out of physical memory.
try turning off all elaborate graphical features, and set it all to the barest minimum i know it will look like cr*p but hey that could solve your problem :)

aye, i think that a 64mb graphic cards is the minamum requirments.

what are the specs of your comp, not too much detail just
proccessor speed
physical memory
graphics card + memory

i mean if you can play A2 comfortably with everything set at about half way then you really shouldn't have any problem to be honest

intel pentium 4 2.4ghz
512mb RAM
Geforce FX 420 with 64mb of memory

i'd that have thought that was enough to play the game ok

yeah thats more than good enough to play with quite high settings, wierd
only thing i can suggest is that you submit a copy of that log file eufnoc was talking about about, maybe that will shed some light on the problem.

i don't have the cinimatic window on whilst playing and i have medium graphics. i'll put the log file mentioned on here next time it crashes. i'm planning on getting a 128mb or 256mb graphics card off ebay soon so hopefully things will run a lot smoother. another thing i have around 7gb of space free on my 60gb hard drive lol would that affect the game in anyway??

thanks again for your help guys

That still seems a little low for FO (on high) in my experince.

Do you have any other programs running when your playing?
posted on July 15th, 2005, 8:32 pm
the pc i use to play fo on ain't as powerfull as that,
256mb ram, same graphics card , 1.8Ghz processor
and it plays flawlessly with all graphical settings at the middle.

the geforce mx 420 card is a good solid reliable card, although it strains under the latest games it can easily handle fo at the middle notches. reckon the problem lies elsewhere, perhaps a crappy download

Do you still get lag during battles and on large maps?
posted on July 16th, 2005, 2:52 pm
the only map i've ever had any real problem with lag was "betrayal" as soon as it loaded up it started playing like a slide show :D other than that no lag

WHat about on full?

tied it just now, a slide show when involved in some big skirmishes, but nothing at the start when the teams are building up there armadas. saying this i don't have it on high settings, everything at the middle for me, i'd rather have good gameplay than graphical flair. a good mix is nice though :P
