i'v been trying to add some new ship models to fleet ops, its normaly pretty simple ( go to A2 files.com - download Miranda class - replace sod - edit odf HP's - add textures ) but for some reason in 3.0 nearly all the ships i try to add dont render at all
any sugestions???

so far,Ive been able to add only a couple ships. The dauntless class by dan1025 seems to work. Actually most ships made by him seem to work. Maybe it depends on if it was made with the FO patch.

It has something to do with the fact the FO uses different emitters than A2. There is a way if you search the forums for it. Perhaps someone else can tell you but i don't remember how right now.

I have managed to add several ships and stations, however when they engage in combat, some of them cause the game to crash, like the cardassian ships Ive added... Havent been able to figure out why though..

I've never gotton crashes from anything but odf problems. Sometimes, however, the ship will only appear as the error sod. I wonder if this is related to the fact that Storm 3d cant read textures when it is in the game. If you move the ship to a different or vanilla install it can read them, but not in FO.

I actually took a couple of shots at doing this, i tried to put in the Windrunner (as sort of a futuristic experimental with some teeth), and some other excalibur-esque ship. Neither worked.

the problem is probably to do with either the directories or the odf files used.
FO3 texture directory is just textures i think any textures placed in the RGB directory like in A2 will not show (not 100% tho)
also in standard FO3 the odf folder structure is odf->system (there is a topic some were here that has all the other possible directoies) so odfs placed in a structure like odf->ships will not work. Also I think most of the files needed for a2 weapons are gone so you will need to use the FO weapon files (prob best using an existing FO ship/station then modify yht needed parts to ensure you havent missed any essential bits.
If the station or ship has emitters for A2 then the mesh will come up as an error to fix this you need to copy the A2 emiiter sprite file and link it to the fleetops main sprite file which i beleive it is fleetops.spr (but the emitters will look poo as FO dsent has the A2 emiiter textures)
so in summery use an existing FO ship/station odf and modify as needed and use an importer sod importer (or converter) and remove the A2 emitters and rexport as sod) or copy all a2 textures into the FO3 texture folder and add the A2 lights and emitter sprite files to the flletops.spr file
