A2FOExtensions is a modular extension framework for Fleet Operations 4.0. It expands what modders can achieve while preserving compatibility with the existing game, its file formats and established modding practices.

It is not a standalone mod. Individual features are supplied as optional modules, allowing each mod to enable only the systems it needs.

Current features include:

- Recursive ODF loading from subfolders and FPQ archives, with correct Data, ParentMod and active-mod precedence.
- Expanded gameplay systems, including additional resources, directional shields, ammunition and shuttle capacity, hull-mounted turrets, ambient swarms, custom wreckage and extended research-pod upgrades.
- Hybrid construction, research and evolution stations, refit-yard submenus and improved production queues.
- New presentation options such as captain names, ship registries, subsystem states, animated hardpoints, faction-specific textures and visible model damage.
- Improved single-player mission selection, restored Instant Action settings, build-time and resource-cost tooltips, configurable game defaults and corrected movie scaling.
- Optional Armada I compatibility for legacy ODF behaviour, maps, team colours, textures, officer quarters and other systems.
- A native module API that allows further features to be developed without placing everything inside one increasingly tangled DLL.

The project also includes several standalone modding tools:

- A2FO Arc Lab for visually configuring weapon fire arcs.
- A2FO Icon Lab for positioning weapon and system icons.
- Armada UI Editor for visually editing Armada I and Armada II interface layouts.

A2FOExtensions is under active development. Many features have already been tested in-game, while some of the more experimental systems still require wider testing—particularly save games and multiplayer synchronization.

The aim is simple: give Armada and Fleet Operations modders more freedom without taking away the data-driven flexibility that made these games so moddable in the first place.
