This strategy could be interesting.  Don't worry about building any ships.  Just set up ss many defense stations and cloak detection systems as possible around a wormhole.

Only works if that wormhole is your only access to the rest of the map.  And I haven't tested it online or using limited resources yet.  But it works with the AI as they only send a few ships in at a time.

Defense stations? I just put a Starbase there. Works great as Borg if you get station holding beams.

Generally speaking, a defensive strategy is a loosing strategy.  Against the AI its usually not a problem, but against a (decent) human player you will probably loose.

this is a long established strat for nirvana II

its a really boring one too. after a few turrets are up it becomes impossible for the enemy to attack. u can even put up sensor stations to decloak. and if something with advanced cloak comes through then the wormhole opening effect tips you off.

several starbases around there can be handy.

in a real online game with normal resources you will definitely lose. you wont be able to get stuff up fast enough to defend if they are agressive.

My first thought after reading was "Nirvana II."  lol!  In stock A2, my brother used to build starbases up over his base where you couldn't see them and you couldn't win unless you were Borg with 10 tactical fusion cubes!  :borg:

Strong is not a word I'd expected to see used for a stock A2 turret...

i did that with roms and put lots of warbirds at wormhole anythign that entered was destroyed, then enemy was smart enough to use their own romulan rift thingy to destroy my fleet...

stock turrets were awesome. well against ai at least. in online play with warp all bets were off. but i hate playing stock online cos it was a crappy online game lol.

I think I remember a few torpedoes hitting ships that are moving at warp speeds.  Although, you have to be in the path of the ship or near it in order for it to hit.  And when the enemy vessel dropped out of warp even after they were out of range of the turrets, the torpedoes that had already been fired would hit anyways.
