Except for repair hotkey, I don't use hotkeys.

1 - primary fleet
2 - secondary fleet (mostly raiding or flanks)
3 - tertiary fleet (mostly raiding or flanks)
4, 5, 6 - scouts (5 - main scout, additional support ships, or special buildings like dom sensor))
7, 8, 9, 0 - special buildings or yards (or free for additional fleets)
4 - 0 are mostly bound differently per race and gameplay. 1 - 3 are always battle fleets.
Well, more or less like everyone else here.

That's not that odd.... I run a similar base setup (situation dependent).
0 - Stations (SFC, Incubation Centers, Hyperspace Sensor System, MoQbara’ , Intelligence Center)
1 - Primary Attack Fleet (usually fast early-game raiding ships)
2 - Stand-by Fleet 1 (usually ships just constructed from "small yards", or slower 2nd Attack Fleet)
3 - Stand-by Fleet 2 (usually ships just constructed from "large yards").
4 to 6 - Reserved "Holding" Fleets
7-9 - Scouts
My small yard is always fleet 2, and large yard is fleet 3. The ships get moved from those two fleets, depending on the situation. This way it is really easy to manage the build queues, because only new ships would be showing-up in those fleets. If I fill-up fleet 1 (usually only in AI games), then the entire scheme just gets pushed down my keyboard (Fleet 2 becomes a second separate fleet, and 3 & 4 become the yards). If I need to manage slower units, fleet 2 becomes those slower ships, and my yards move to 3 & 4.
The only exception to this is when I double or triple-yard units. In that case, Yard 1 = Fleet 1, Yard 2 = Fleet 2, Yard 3 = Fleet 3. This way, I have three clear battle groups, which I just have to remember to check the yard queues every 5 minutes or so.
