I do not understand the system for Exp gain.
1. How is it determined wich ship will gain exp?
2. What is the amount of Exp. gained per ship?
2.1 What are the factors influencing Exp?
3. Which ships (type or class) are good prey for leveling up?

Each vessel has both:
A. An experience value that is gained by the ship that kills it.
B. A number at which the ship advances to it's next rank.
Here's the xp values for the Phalanx: "fed_phalanx.odf"
worthxp = 119
xplevel = 1
nextrankclass = "fed_phalanxr2"
nextrankxp = 65
So when a Phalanx is destroyed it gives 119 xp to the ship that destroys it. At 65 xp the Phalanx itself levels up from Level 1 to Level 2 ("fed_phalanxr2").

dunno why but i thought there was an hardcoded forumula for each class so that a battleship does not get the same exp for destroying a cruiser as a scout dse but i'm probably wrong

yep. the destroying vessel gets the XP-Value of the destroyed vessel. all XP points byond a level-up are lost

I think it is not possible to see the remaining xps for nex up rank? This could be a good idea for the future...so I have more control over leveling up ships.
PS: Anyone interested in a xp table? maybe we can collect the data together?

That sounds like something for Dominus's guide

What about an experience meter / bar that shows up on the GUI when individual ships are selected, as it gains experience the bar fills a certain percent until it completes a rank gain. Could be useful for selecting vessels that are further up in experience for combat rather than ones with none.
Thoughts?

Largely pointless at the moment, ships generally gain a level of veterancy for each kill, unless they are of massively higher tech levels fighting vs cheap little ships.. if that changes in the next game then sure, a bar might be useful.. but for the time being it wouldn't be much good.

aye. We don't plan to do an experience meter at the moment, as it would just add an additional GUI element that is quite useless. Without knowing the experience values of all ships, you still don't know how much you get from a kill. And, as kllthdyrctr noted, most vessels rank up from a single kill of an equal opponent. It's Fleet Operations, not World of Warcraft

dam i'm in the wrong game i thought there was summit wrong (jk sry in a strange mood today) mayb just a kill meter just so u can see who killed the most while ingame but obviously as a low prioity as its not important or particularly important.

xp bars or killcounter have been discussed in the past. something similar is planned but low priority. i think the current experience system works quite well though it may not be perfect. there will definitively some changes to it in the future including something to represent the performance of a ship in the fleet.

Why is it whenever I post here I feel any idea I have gets pounced on in a rather harsh way. Since the day I started posting Ive never felt welcomed and anything Ive ever contributed has been met with rather unnecessary extra commentary. >:(
Ive frequented other modding forums before namely T3a and been apart of that community for several years, and well this place just seems like a little like the bar everyone goes to and they all know eachother but the moment a new face arrives in the door, the music stops and everyone turns to look at the newcomer as if he were some bad egg stinking up the place.
For the record I dont, nor have I ever played WOW, and dont intend to. I find it offensive that because I made a suggestion about a meter to track experience it automaticaly means I spend my nights WOWing it. Id really appreciate it if people would just give me the benefit of the doubt and not assume Im a total moron.
Im sure someone here will say "I should go elsewhere with my comments" the fact is I do enjoy fleetops very much and its one of the most professional modifications Ive played, not to mention complete. I just want to contribute even if its a small minor thing that makes the game better. But since the get go Ive felt like an unwanted child and its becoming harder for me to even express my thoughts or ideas because of it.

Hey mate, I don't think anybody is attacking you
. You have to expect that people are each entitled to their opinion, and they aren't going to all say "great idea" all of them
. I can't tell you how many times my ideas have been disregarded - but never fear, you just learn to post more of them
I don't see why you'd say that
. The turnover rate is pretty decent, and obviously you aren't that new yourself
If you are looking for someone to say "I should go elsewhere with my comments" I dare say you won't find anyone to do that. I like to think we are a pretty nicely knit community, and new guys are what give the mod new ideas
.
Just bear in mind, your idea had been posed several times before, and it doesn't really fit with the way experience works in FO at the moment (there just is too little of a difference between ranking up a Rhienn and a Leahval for instance). Bear in mind that the Devs are a little short on time, so they aren't going to be prettying up their posts right now
.
No harm, no foul, and see you around on the forums
