We were playing a big map, usually it goes back and forth between data and I on it. (Holiday's at Risa) It has 12 moon pairs, I ended up hammering most of his fleet and backing off while I built some base killers cause I noticed 4 torpedo turrets at his main base. He had something like TWENTY FIVE of them in his middle mining. He was playing Mayson and his torpedo turrets out ranged my "artillery" range ships or it was equal range which left me eventually amassing a fleet of about 20 d'eridex warbirds and just running them in with torpedo rheins and specter refits and hammering them flat. Total time on my part something like 3 hours. Was there something I should have been doing?
I controlled 7 moon sets at that point, and had many ship yards, supply was the only killer. He was turtled with 3 moon sets.

Its a game where strategy is no longer relevant since res are abundant...Just get more Battleships than your enemy and you are the winner...if it would be a normal map of normal size I could give you other advice but not this time.

well a 1v1 on a large map is crazy. the torp turret for both avatars has artillery range. serkas can just about outrange them with serious micro, by force firing near them.
i dont really think fleetops is balanced well for such weird setups.
on big maps romulans are great vs feds as they can cloak. u could easily move from exp to exp killing stuff without fear of his ships catching u unless he had a script in advanced knowing where u were gonna strike.
if he turtles on a big map, the game will unfortunately last a while as u did the correct thing and expanded everywhere.
i'd recommend a two player map like duel II v1.2 by boggz.

If we play on anything smaller than a 6 player map. I wipe him in mere minutes. the larger map gives him enough of an edge to sometimes catch me off guard. Also the time it takes me to cross the map gives him a slight ship advantage sometimes. Usually we play 3 moons on 3 moons. First time I've ever seen him turtle though in awhile.

Well it's tough to say what you "could" have done. Like someone already said you can't really count on balance in an odd setup.
