Hi, couldn't find this exact situation so I wanted to ask here. Anyways, I only play versus AI and as Romulan. Obviously not because they pwn everyone, but because they're my favorite since A1.
Anyways I wanted to ask you about the borg matchups. What should I build? I mix up spectre and support refits and it works somewhat if I catch the borg ships isolated. But should I run into 2 or 3 forget about it.
Suddenly my whole fleet's disabled, not doing much and gets decimated in the matter of seconds.
What do they use? And how to counter it... Allowing them not to develop that far is not an options because I always play 8 players FFA. Against all other races I wipe the map with them, but against the borg I'm a bit lost.
Not knowing the race doesnt help either
So how to counter the borg with rommies and how to avoid that huge AoE disabler? Thanks.

I'd recommend this build order with Mijural
Construc 1: dilithium mining --> Warbird Yard --> Cehlaer
Construc 2: research institute --> tritanium mining --> expand
Eventually move onto the Big D (after you have at least 6-7 Cehlaer) and then go to a small yard and build Generix Refits as with helev (below)
With helev I'd recommend starting with Leahvals (excellent passive against Borg) and use Energy Reeling A LOT. Then switch to Generix Shield Refit and Dread Refits.

Sadly the Romulans lost a LOT of power in this latest patch. The good news though is that they will be getting some love before the next patch comes out and should be back on par with everyone else!
As for now the Rommies vs. AI Borg is going to be a SUPER hard matchup. Part of what the Rommies excel at right now is strike quickly from cloak and making the opponent send ships to stop them. Then other Rommie ships can strike elsewhere and run away.
Sadly though the AI won't play that kind of game and most of your tactics are pointless. Playing the AI just ends up being a game of "make as many ships as possible and eat the stream of ships the AI sends at you".

I really enjoy when there's like 2 or 3 borg among the 7 AI's so would leahvals with spectre and support refits work... because mostly the matchups you face are alot of ships against alot of ships. And what's the description of the borg disable that shuts down my whole fleet?

One thing I forgot to note, and I guess I'll post it here, is that you want to use the Cehlaer's special ability after getting up to the Tal'Shiar. It'll give your forces great survivability. Mijural's main system will be attack ponderously (you don't want to lose a SINGLE ship). Helev has a more expendable strategy, but those quick strikes should prevent the Borg from being able to build too many ships

With Romies you just have to pick your targets carefully and do a lot of defending. You can't lose ships willy nilly like the other factions (especially Feds).
I think you mean Nanites? It shuts down random systems

Aren't ships with high system value a little more resistant against special weapons like this?

I though it might be nanites but I guess they removed the GUI distortion. But the effects of it aren't even funny

They are, yes, but since Nanites is a constant Area-of-Effect weapon it will continue to disable while you're in it. Romulan ships are generally less affected by things like critical shot, but if you sit in a cloud of Nanites you're going to stay disabled

Not to mention nanites and some other AoE abilities are unintentionally too strong right now. So not only is it disabling your ship, but it's ripping your fleet to shreds!

I've already read about that, but I admit that I sometimes enjoy this unintended strength of AoE weapons (The Magnan phaser seems to be affected, too

Well, for the vets you still need Tyler and eraldo. I'm not a FO vet anyways (I played 2.0 Beta some years ago, but that doesn't mean anything until I played online)

A number of the really excellent Online players don't post much or at all on the forums either.
Wait till you get online and play Mort. There has never been a craftier or more sneaky opponent
. He redefines the way you play a game cause he never quits and will try just about anything!

Sounds very interesting... I will find out one day
Edit:
May be not that long, but longer than me
What about unleash mayhem then, does that sounds better?

Did two games as helev in 8 man FFA vs. couple of borg AI's. The result is mostly I can kite their vessels and kill them off pretty easily around the map, but should the borg decide to take the fight to my base, I can't defend it. We're talking mupltiple spheres, assims, and most often a tact cube. My small vessel Helev fleet just gets disabled in one of the multiple clouds of nanites and then gets surronded and massacred. Don't think it's doable, to me atleast
