So i would like to hear a working! strategy for rom against x that works without using Leavhals in early-game. And without Frigate refits only! in mid-game.

Probably none?

It's called, wait for the patch! :D  I'm just happy that roms are able to compete, even when all their ships cost more than they should.

the only thing that might work is hoping that noone attacks you really early (or you have an early-game heavy teammae) and then go directly to generix refits, which are are still pretty cost effective.

Hehe. I chose the wrong match to try out new strats. Mayson warpins and a bunch of norways! Hip hip horray :D

Against everything but a sphere rush and a Fed warp-rush a few Rhienns with phase plates, a couple Leahvals, and some frigates does wonders.  Spectres instead of Frigates will just cripple Feds.

Rommies will do fine against Borg until the first Sphere comes out ... then really your only choice is to somehow get bships or just meta the thing into oblivion (which never feels very satisfying to me).

My favorite thing to do now is 3 Rhienns with Phase plates.
2 - 4 Leahvals (depending on the size of the ships my opponent is fielding).
Throw down the Upgrade facil, upgrade the Rhienns OR make a warbird yard and a Big D.
There are two distinct tech trees for the Rommies that are not inefficient:

Rhienns/Leahvals/Generix/Norexan (all use that Tal Shiar Facil)

Rhienns/Leahvals/Big D/Rhienn Refits (all use Upgrade facil).

Oodles of fun.  As long as you are sneaky with you Rhienns you won't lose them and can harass very effectively.  4 or more will knock miners out very quickly and run off as soon as you need to.

Where can i see a replay with you using this strat against equal enemies? If you can show me how you face a good borg player or a good klingon player this way on any of the balanced maps...i will believe you.

Numbers boggz. I want numbers.

To get, lets say 6 rhienns you spend 2400 D, 858 T, 102 S and 6 min!
additional 4 leavhals cost you 2116 D, 1032 T, 96 S and 4,6 min!
Than you need to either tech up to generix or refits. costing you D and T and time.
build 4 spectres cost you 2276 D, 580 T, 88S and 4,3 min!
or make 4 disruptor refits for  1228 D, 556 T and 112 S!

So it takes you 5744 D, 2446 T, 310 S and 10,6 min at least to build that force disregarding buildings and science and maybe a 2nd expansion and 3-4 scouts.
Additionally you have to make sure not to loose a single ship. Which is quite difficult regarding the fact that pinging is very easy (especially for borg). One ping on you rhienns and they are gone because they are weak and slow (i.e. cannot escape). Then you need to consider, that your very fragile miners are easily taken by any other race...especially borg, which slows your minig down. An early exp is almost impossible to defend with rhienns because they are so weak and rom turrets are no match. AND you can either attack or defend with your rhienns because they are too slow. Phase plates are nice on retreat, but it takes ages to recharge the energy. And once you refitted the rhienn...you can no longer retreat efficiently because the plates are gone.

So after all this time with buildings and ship production...what do you think an enemy will have? I bet much more offensive and defensive.

In addition to all this...rom has a very hard time to chase damaged ships...because the leavhal is the only ship with enough speed to chase...it has only short range which makes it impossible to chase the opponent (especially scubes, probes, brels, kvorts, monsoons, intrepids, bugs and s2). So you will have a hard time leveling up your ships.

The only time you can do anything with this build is...when you play 3v3 with 2 good defenders. On all the other games you will be wiped out for sure.

Alright fuck it:

Mass Leahvals all you want.  I don't give a shit.  I'm not giving you any numbers and I'm not gong to spoon-feed you what you want.

Rely on the OP unit all you want.  I don't care.  Or you can be an [b]adult[b] and TRY to learn something else.

Good luck .

Boggz needz a glass of warm milk and a nap. :hungry:

:shifty:

:D

The patch can't be that far away, guys.  Don't sweat it! :)  I'm sure they'll fix those K'vorts and leahvals.  And just look at how cool those impact screenshots are and how awesome the patch will be once they're done!

Lol .... Boggz iz tired of coming under fire for trying to promote a fair and balanced game ... :(

With all due respect to everyone, if Dom, Mal, yandonman, and Myself had not talked about and come to a consensus, then put out a list of what we though would be good "Community Rules", Fleetops might not have been played as much as it has been lately.  People would just be spamming Kvorts and Leahvals and Breen Cruisers and Intrepids or (god Forbid) Mayson-stomping everyone.

So I'll keep taking the heat for this HERE.  :D

BTW:  The only reason Leahvals were left off this list was because NOBODY played Romulans for the first month or so after the patch came out.  People only started to do so after they realized that the Leahval could single-handedly balance them out.  Then people started to realize that if they mixed Leahvals with other units they could have a good game :).

So did I with 2 Rhienns  5 Leavh and 3 Griffins...

The next thing I remember was Boggz complaining and accusing me of spamming leavhals only..  -_-

Oh please.  I did nothing of the sort and you know it.  I never accused you of spamming in the first place.  I ASKED you to try some Rhienns and figured you wouldn't because you pitched a fit.  So you built 3, used them poorly, then bitched the entire game about how I RUINED your strat.

Grow up.  What are you trying to prove with this?

There's a simple answer to this.

Spam the crappiest unit you have, and try to mass enough of them to win that way.  By crappiest, I mean scouts.  Yes, the Borg have a huge advantage to this 'strategy'.

Whoever actually manages to win a game doing this gets the right to act like a petulant child.

You are out!

@Boggz

The first game we played i build exacly this fleet...you lost and said..."can you do something else than spamming leavhals". I tried to build Rhienns in the first...used them to attack your Exp which was guarded by a HWP than and withdraw them. So i went on to attack your main dil moon. there they got eaten up (of course) because the SB and your ships and the pinging was against me.

how I RUINED your strat

Its not about that. Its about you telling me to use a strat different from 5+ Leavhals in the beginning (which almost ever leads to loss) or otherwise you will spam kvorts which are way better than my leavhals. This is what you said.

And you refuse to show a replay against a equal player where you use a mixed fleet strat and win! The one against xerjel is  xerjel is not as good as you are and you know this for sure. Of course I could also do a game against a weaker player and use a more flexible strat AND could be able to win. BUT this is no proove that a mixed fleet is better. It only shows that a more skilled player owns a less skilled one. That's it.

You are wrong as long as you can provide a replay against a good player where you win with your mixed fleet. I will not argue with you as long as you cannot show me this.

We lost because yandonman went Assimilate.  He admitted this and we all laughed about it.

Because that was our 2nd attempt at a game and was very brief, I ASKED (ASKED) ASKED ASKED you to try something else.  When you said "like what?" I suggested some Rhienns.  You pitched a fucking fit about it so I said "fine, do whatever you want, but if you're keep relying on Leahvals I'm just gonna stop avoiding K'vorts".

Claim that I asked you to do that because I lost all you want  :).  I don't mind losing.  You are choosing to ignore some very choice aspects of what happened, and I don't appreciate you saying that I'm a hypocrite about this subject after I gave you the choice repeatedly.  You make your own choices, you play your own game, and you get to be an adult about it.

And you're about to piss me off.  Let it go.
