I found the K'T'Inga to be quite useless until it reaches the fourth level, which most of them never do because they often are fried before they can.

Quite true but the can make  not too shabby of a  fill in ship till  the calvary arrives in protecting a mining outpost.

how often do you even use a ktinga? i mean if you are deploying them then you have lost your miners anyway and have to build more which will slow you down bad.

I use K'tingas when my Mining outpost has clearly got no hope of surviving. Better to die fighting.

true, but thats rare, i prefer to retreat my miners away if i can, if you have good scouting u can detect a lot of uncloaked attacks with enough time to sneak your miners away. retreating them saves me having to rebuild them. which allows me to build more combat ships :D

Yeah, but that's not really a very 'Klingon' way to act. I only do that as Federation or Romulans.

I this case the Klingon way is inferior...  :sweatdrop:

You're talking about a race who live by the motto "Honor before Reason". I don't think they actually put much thought into how they do anything, even battle often.

I don't really feel like it's SUPPOSED to have a lot of uses.  The basic principle of it is that it has MORE use than a fed or Rommie miner.  Dommies can at least switch them all around, but the Klingon one can do several things:

1:  Jettison and escape if needed (to avoid giving exp to enemies)
2:  Be joined into fleets with Kbeajq and take fire before other ships do.
3:  Make great early distractions and raiders.

One bad thing is that I'm often tempted to just bust all the freighters into Ktinga when a sizable force shows up, which immediatly removes any and all mining possibilties you have there.  On the other hand, they can escape rapidly and deny the experience to your opponents.

Don't think of them as fighters until they've escaped, then think of them as free cannon fodder :D.  Any Klingon is happy to die gloriously in Battle!

Do I have a bad memory on that or why do I think I didn't start that thread?

Sometimes, for fun, after I set up my mining, I build a huge number of K'tinga and try to use them as my backbone ship.  Right up to the moment I see Borg.  Absolutely worthless against the Borg.

Actually, against Borg they wouldn't be SO bad ....

But really I don't use them to fight.  They are meant for mining and should really only be turned to Ktinga if you are clearly going to lose them anyway.

The offense is too low for fighting Borg.  The fact that they use a Beam weapon is good.  The fact that they hit like a scout ship is bad.  I suppose they're okay for killing Detectors.  That's about it.  Everything has such a high defense in comparison that they can ignore pretty large numbers of K'tinga.

They could make decent cannon-fodder against the AI. If the AI targets the lowest defence valued ships first, it keeps them away from more important ships.
