How to improve your economy

Well, I hope to find my answer here:
I noticed that in the Admiral's Log my economy is usually far behind my military and even more bugging my opponent's economy. I'd like to get some advice on improving my stats here since I don't really know what I'm doing wrong.
(I'm not talking about the basic stuff like building expansions and having 2 - 3 miners per moon as non-Borg of course. So advice from the guide won't do )

dont lose miners and keep expanding all the time. This is the major point.

Well, maybe it's the losing miners part in the equation. Happens from time to time... 
Even on maps with only one expansion per player my economy is not as good as my opponent's.

do you go raid and force enemy to lose miners? if you destroy their mining station that will greatly delay their resource production

yea if you want to completely destroy enemy economy you destroy everything if you want to halt him from repairs and constructing ships you destroy his shipyards, if you want to stop him from teching up you destroy their science stations, you never go after starbase (unless it's not upgraded and you want to make them waste resources upgrading - which in fact gives you another + cuz in the end they will just upgrade resources giving you an extra 600+600 resource advantage depending on how many times they upgrade)

It only takes a couple of destroyers a short time to destroy a non-Borg miner.  Try using just a few here and there to attack, kill a miner, and run.

  It will not only hurt their economy, but it will hurt their focus, their initiative, and generally adjust where they have to station their ships.
