Push "Alt + F4" repeatedly. You'll never fail!

they do extra damage to the medium sized cube, and they are earlier game so you can make them in numbers and by that time in the game it should be easy to get all their specials. reeling is always useful. and auto repair lets you do the borg trick back at them, regen. they hit your leahval, you turn on reeling and escape and repair. makes it hard for the cube to get kills. and the leahval will probably be auto targeted cos its defence will be weaker. and they are easily fast enough to keep up. its a good choice. gensups are also a brillaint choice, as they allow you to control that cube.
Iv used lahevals on a cube they dont work as well as you seem to think, they are on the other side of the tech tree to each other, and a cube is hardly going to be alone in theory they should be effective in reality they will be space wreckage

Well Kestrel you don't have to be a believer
.
I'll just say that Leahvals in general are an EXCELLENT choice vs. 3.1.5 Borg. They can dominate early and hold the advantage well in to the middle game. If they somehow manage to put out a Cube, you're gonna lose some of your precious Leahvals, but they are perfectly suited for destroying Cubes.
Other than that: here is the video where I foolishly charge into a Borg base to take on a Tac Cube (By it's fully upgraded starbase
) and come out victorious
!!!! Battle with Cube begins around 7:00 ish ...
HERE
The circumstances do include Support refits making good use of Plasma Bolt on both the Base and the Cube - a little bit of shield recharge, and lots of Big D's with Gen Specter's tanking (they take less torpedo damage and are targeted before the D's and Supports.
Not a perfect example (I also had 1 weapon upgrade), but this should show you how a Cube does not necessarily have to be something to be feared in all situations

I don't believe that the holding beam cube is prone to specials that disable weapons. Your best bet is to have a lot of torpedoes flying around. Excelsior, Excelsior II, Sovereign, stuff like that. Mix in some Intrepids with Tricobalts and you can at least make it so that the cube has heavy damage. The special on the Sovereign is a big boost when used by more than one ship. Teching up quickly and countering early-game attacks is your best bet.

This was really about Romulan / Klingon handling a Cube. Feds have the easiest time as nearly all their most common ships are torpedo armed to some degree.
Mage cubes with Holding Beams do have less vulnerability to special weapons, but those Cubes are very uncommon in multiplayer because they truly are more vulnerable all around to general weapons fire.

ahem, against borg your best bet is always having lots of torps, thats pretty standard.
also, why you are correct that the holding beam cube takes less from specials, its very very rare to see them. you usually dont get many chances to make a cube, and most times you wanna make the generalist, which doesnt have holding modules. the only time you really see them is when you dont have enough dil to make the standard tac cube.
