(Note: this is only against computer, i would not expect this to work against a human... guess it would work on merciless unless one of the comp AI's gained an advantage over the others too early and left the human player massively out gunned).
Had a game last night against 3 hard opponents on that 4 player map where everyone is separated by asteroid fields (Crossroads?).
Anyway, the idea was build up 3 fleets of Generix refits (16xSpectre, 16xSupport, 16xFrigate).
Basically i sat back and built up slowly defending my base while i got the Generix built and research done. Took quite a long time, especially because it took a hell of a lot of supplies and other resources.
Base defense was handled by a scattering of turrets and a few mixed ships along with at the end a 2 Tavara (and very soon after a whole fleet of mixed craft from other races... got to love those Tavara, only the Borg do it better).
Next i sent the Gernerix to the center and let them gain experience killing the swarms of ships flying around, pulling them back for repairs as necessary.
First thing i noted, i only lost 1 ship while gaining experience!!
Next after all ships had gained a rank or two i sent the lot of them into an enemy base (Cardassians were first to go). I stealthed them until they got close to the starbase and then focused the lot on it. The starbase went down in about 15 seconds. Several ships lost shields temporarily but the support refits kept shields repaired.
[glow=red,2,300]DID NOT LOOSE 1 SHIP!!![/glow]
After that the generix just swarmed around the base taking less than a minute to wipe the rest of the base out.
Rinse and repeat two more times and game over. Did not loose a single Generix except for that 1 very early on.
Was quite a good game and a good challenge balancing resources between defense and building my fleets until everything was ready.
Also goes to show that with Fleet Ops the bigger ships are not always the best.

Now try that with 16x support and some big ships: you'll get the same firepower at a substantially reduced cost. The way Fleet Ops is balanced is that big ships are more cost effective than little vessels-- thus encouraging you to tech up.

Yeah, I think my new Rom AI uses the Generixes more often. I like the idea of using a swarm of refitted cruisers. Sounds nice!

He musta modded them in. I have not released any sort of mod like that. in fact, i havent nearly enough material to make a full race yet!

Sorry, my bad. I meant Dominion. Play other mods from time to time and Cardies/Dom are sometimes the same race.
As for using the bigger ships, sure would be cheaper, but the bigger ships are slower. The idea was for a fastish strike force which the Generix worked well for. But you are right, it was bloody expensive building this fleet. Was an interesting experiment but not something i will try again.

If I remember correctly the Norexan is either the same speed or slower than a Generix (depending on the avatar)
Hehe, nice to hear you are experimenting

Generexes are the best. I never have used the large Romulan yard in a multiplayer game. Is there a time or place to do that?

If you went with 3 fleets of support refits, you would nullify any offense ability of a fleet that was anything less then twice the size of yours. Alone, they launch the weapon nullfiers, and if you can get close enough and deploy mines, you can obliterate enemy ships fairly quickly. Of course, I only use Helev, so its quite cheap for me to produce so many, even if they are slower.

Only Warbirds are slower, not Staryard vessels
