I think we ought to put a BIG notice up somewhere for the Federation Fan Club. BALANCED FLEETS. That's the only way the Federation will get anywhere. In fact, it's probably a good idea to ask yourself if your're using all of the classes from the Antares and Eridau yards. If not - why not.
Feds have powerful support ships like the Remore, and if you play as Mayson you get the Norway. You've got decent cruisers like Akiras and Intrepids which form the backbone of most good fleets; plus you get the Excelsior - a good battleship which gives you a lot of bang for your money. You get Defiants, which can take out high value targets with their Critical Shot abilities. (We'll miss out Sovereigns - because I was the one who started the whole Sovereign Durability Issue topic that went WAAAAY off-topic from a simple defensive tweak to a whole Fed re-hash) Sorry for that - wont happen again.
AND if you go as Risner, you get Carrier Avalons and Phalanxes - both warships that can add some firepower when used to head fleets. I haven't even gone into the turret side of things because that's already been well covered. It's fair to say that if you want to succeed against an AI or a human player - you need to have a good balanced fleet made up of various ship types

"What we need is a strategy subforum so the more experienced players can teach the less experienced how to play better. Or we could just organize tutorial games."
Somehow I don't think this will work. Most people who play MP rarely post on the forums and I feel that the best teaching experience for most is actually upfront and personal. I.E. Playing MP with more experienced players. So I think that your "tutorial games" idea is good. However, I get the feeling that a lot of the people who complain about the factions without offering concrete reasons as to why they are bad do not play online, don't wish to, or haven't yet (or just haven't played enough matches). In my opinion, organizing tutorial games already happens, but we just call it playing anybody who's online
.
"It would be kinda cool if the more experienced players started youtubing (is that a word) videos"
I'm not exactly sure how this will work as you'd literally have to have the game from both sides covered ... and have people with the patience to upload said videos. Could work though...
@ Adm. Zaxxon: This is going to come off sounding like a brag... but generally I play against 2 or more AI Hards because one is just boring. Borg is more fun to play against than the others because they send Spheres and Diamonds like other races send Vorchas or Defiants etc...
"The reason I started this thread was because I have played A very long time this week trying different strategies, just trying to figure this all out. I have read, and posted on the sovereign thread which was resolved. I really don't mind if you don't want to do anything with the feds, you don't have to post. Any way that's just my opinion. Weather or not I suck or not remains to be seen."
You can actually win against Borg AI hard just by spamming Sabers. Just build 1... or maybe even two shipyards, research the Saber upgrade, and pump em out. Ta-DA! You've just won against the Borg AI hard. Just remember to micro the Sabers so they don't get close. In regards to "not wanting to do anything with the Feds"--we are trying to show you that there isn't anything that needs to be done, so simply not posting isn't a solution. I still recommend trying a lot of MP though before commenting on OP or UP factions and strategies.

See what I mean about taking flak?
As I said before, don't take it personally. It's not directed towards you, but against the fed heavy posting that goes on. Any generalizations made aren't about you. Although you might have wanted to title your post "Federation Strategies" instead of about balancing, since that's what you're really looking for. Page 19 isn't about the Soveriegn, but a list of all Federation ships and why they're good.
Your question is about strategy against the AI
, which I am more than willing to help with.
I'll PM you my thoughts on how to do well with the Federation against the AI.
And Dominus is a jerk because he just posted before I could finish, making most of what I've said redundant, and now I might as well not continue since he's covered the other points I was going to make.

Ill try,( to change the name ) but I really posted this so every one could benefit cause there seemed to be some confusion about Fed strategy.

The Feds strategy varies heavily when compared to other races strategies. Klings are always spam, Rommies are always ambush with refitted ships, Dom is patrol of your space, Borg is intensive micro. Feds can be anywhere from spam (Sabers, Defiants and Excel-IIs
) to heavy rescource gathering to Uber-Micro (Sov in battle
). I personally use heavy turtling in early-game because of thier high defense, and sending out groups of heavy scouts (Monsoons and Sabers) to locate resource areas, which I then take later on in mid-game with fleets of late-game ships, because I heavily invest in my indestructible research. That's my strategy, and I might begin a Dom strategy area, cause the Dominion is like the neglected child that nobody knows how to play as, although officer-rank vessel abilities point towards patrol vessels.

Bah. I prefer 'Surgical Strike' with klingons. A good Luspet strike can move in, kill a bunch of destroyers and a building or two, and get out of dodge easy. Repair and come back to continue being an asshole like that, no spamming required.
