So this is a little something I put together as an interesting and different way a teaching how the various starships inside fleetops works. The setting for the following paragraph is a starfleet admirals breifing. Anyway read it tell me what you think and PLEASE feel free to point out any mistakes, changes, or additions you feel are needed.

Captain Robert Callahan:
Good morning Admirals, I am Captain Robert Callahan of a Monsoon class starship the USS Hurricane. My ship has been assigned to Starbase 375 to protect Federation interests in the area. However we were ordered back to Utopia Planitia for repairs after my ship was heavily damaged in a border skirmish. Starfleet Command has requested that I brief you on the Monsoon-class starship. The ship is a small destroyer, with a standard crew complement of 60. The Monsoon has specially engineered impulse engines that make it the fastest warship in our fleet. We have encountered few ships that are able to keep up with it. The ships main armament is a pair of forward firing short ranged phasers. Starfleet can issue this ship with a special type of proximity detonated torpedo. The ship has also been fitted with special high density shield generators that reduce damage by 50% from weapons fired from a long distance. My ship has been retrofitted with sixth generation shields. My chief Engineer estimates that we are taking 24% less damage from beam and pulse type weapons. He believes that he can further optimize the shields geometry and reduce the damage from beam weapons by an additional 30%, pulse weapons by 20%, and the damage from torpedoes by 10%. That pretty much wraps up my ship and its capabilities.

Admiral Bill Fisher:
If you ship has such great shields why can’t we refit all Monsoons with similar shields?

Captain Callahan:
Right now the shields are still in development, the model we have is a test for how well the shields work. In addition the shields are rather temperamental and it takes an experienced officer to be able to handle them.

Admiral Donald Baldwin:
I notice your ship receives an impressive reduction in damage from beam and pulse weapons, what do you do if you are facing a primarily torpedo armed ship such as the SuS’a’?

Captain Callahan:
Good question. The Electronic Countermeasure suite that was fitted to our ship allows us to evade an average of about 40% of the torpedoes. As long as we are not too badly outnumbered we should be able to destroy the SuS’a’, and if we are we can outrun them. Any other Questions? . . . No well then I bid you good day sirs.

although i credit your flare dircome , most of this can be found in the guide. i prefer the guide's format of giving the facts without embelishments like a story.

I liked it and I don't see why the guide couldn't have both! Sometimes a different presentation is all it takes for someone to catch on.

Of course it can but everything in the guide can be found in the game too but that doesnt keep you from using the guide.

Hmm... reminds me of st-minutiae...

I like it :)
But I would like to see it more like a class in Starfleet Academy, teaching the young Cadets the whole thing :D

I like it. Seems a lot of people sometimes forget that Star Trek is as much about story as it is about technology.

I like it, would love to see this as part of an in-game (and hopefully fully voiced) tutorial. Putting it in the guide would be interesting, but really an interactive tutorial in FlOps would allow hands-on learning for newbies while they're being told what the ships do.
