Hey all, been practicing against the computer a lot. Working on strategies, micro and macro.
Today I beat merciless borg after a long 2 hr game! The computer sent diamonds, spehere, assims, AND even tact cubes but they fell before me!!
I had several groups of ships, each were used to harass different expansions all over the map. Against the computers tact cube, I took it down with ease! I had qawduj use there special which disabled systems as well as vorchas to disable as well. Then my KBQ, kvort, and sangs pounded it down.
I believe playing against the computer really helped me learn to better micro my units as I could not pump them out as fast as the computer could. Also it allowed me to better use all my resources. I didn't even have to build turrets as I scouted well and was constantly all over the map harassing and moving around never staying still.
I hope to play some of you all very soon!!

no turrets allows for more fleets for sure.
having defensive and offensive fleets is awesome against AI. i like building 5-20, then send them to battle, and set my yards to build into a separate fleet. eventually you build up.
klingons are definitely a good choice! haha
also depends on the maps for how hard/easy you want to make it for yourself. you can definitely do a lot of expansion when more moon pairs are around, and AI wont rush you. it comes with predictable ships. whether it be sabers, or what have you for the factions your playing against.
some maps, AI merciless can be beat super quick. others not so much. the only ones i cant beat them on are those that are very small, with only one moon pair expansion.
the new duel ii was fun beating AI merciless though.

It's great to see a new player joining the ranks, now get online and join us! As a small community, we try to be as friendly as possible and there are plenty of new players, so you don't have to worry about doing poorly.
Actually, since the races are so varied, a built-in solution is for older players to learn new races against noobs. Sure, you might get stomped playing against me as Romulan, but if I went Dominion my skill level isn't much better than a brand new player. So please, let us help you learn the game!
EDIT: Also, I should mention that many of us can't beat merciless borg AI's. It's such a different fight from what we're used to. Sure you'll learn micro, but the strategy, the part you get with humans, that's where the real fun lies.

I've tried getting tunngle, but it doesnt seem to work with my computer. My computer always wants to stop installation due to some threat to itself something or other.
I really think the Romulan AI is the toughest. Or maybe its just what I'm doing. I can beat most of them with ease, except Rommies. They cloak out too well when they attack you. So you have to attack them. And they rush to warbirds sooo quickly. Maybe some are more aggressive and are able to take out their mining. but yeah. i dunno
Borg I can see being tough. Whenever I play against them, I always send a rag-tag little fleet to do some mock damage. It seems to slow them down. But of all the races, definitely, if you let the borg get to far... they get a lot of powerful ships out there. My games against them I finish it by the time they get to spheres/diamonds.

if you could start a help thread about this we could try work you through installing tunngle. screenshots would be greatly advised. could be an overzealous antivirus. maybe windows doesnt wanna install the tunngle adaptor.

roms are the hardest AI to beat due to the amount of large yards tehy make and spam from and the 2 second cloak is damned pain in the butt but borg are just so easy compared
player borg vs mers roms is tbh quite fun to do hehe jsut dont expect to win within the first like 3 games lol

i always heard dominion are hardest to beat as they get buckets of free supply and their ships cost less dil/tri and more supply.

um, that does sound vaguely familiar. tunngle adaptor? but also it freaks me out when i tried to downloading it then all i hear is german through my speakers. and i have no idea whats going on. and yeah. my anti virus is avast? so either it doesnt like tunngle, or my computer doesnt. also, when i go to download it, every time there is a new window, the load window page freaks out and tells me to stop using the website. which i understand is probably a bit overdoing it, considering everyone here uses it... but i dont really know about what much to do. im not good with computers knowing whether it is best or not, and the kind of computer i have etc.
i get that dominion should be hardest... but i dont find them too troublesome. its fine if you let them get to their one main battleship. i cant remember its name at the moment. but just that one. if it reaches like breen battleships, and s7 defenders, then you have probably let them expand to far.
AI always sticks to the same gameplan. they stay at destroyers until they feel 'confident' and unchallenged, then they tech up to battleships. but dominion destroyers are pretty tame. bugs arent strong, just numerous. the one c17 or something is very weak. what i find most of all is I get my klingons ships super ranked up against dominion with all t he ships they send at me.
romulans on the other hand. when they attack me, i can only get kills in large scale attacks. if they attack me at a moon, its with a couple ships, and as soon as they get the least bit damaged they retreat. so i have no benefits from early game. no rankups or not a lot. and then before i know it they are at warbird rushing me. and those damned serkas are an annoyance. but of course, it is doable.
so yes, id agree they are fairly tough. and i can see borg being easier. but feds i find to be fairly easy as well. i know they have high defenses, but my klingon fleets have no problems ripping through everything below akira. the e2s are not fun to deal with. and sovereigns and defiants also get annoying. by the way, the Ai doesnt build avalons eh? or the one risner ship. i think its called the avalon. or maybe im thinking of another thing.

I've tried against merciless fed and have beaten them. Just tried Romulans........wow, they are tough. They spam A TON of ships and overwhelm you with sheer number and of course, they cloak extremely fast. Good practice though for me on reaction speed and micro/macro. It will prepare me for human opponents!

while you seem to have stated that you are good with multiple fleets and no turrets. turrets i would suggest in some instances. they are a pretty useful investment. especially if you are klingon. two of their turrets can do heavy damage to multiple ships at once.
a big advantage with AI. is to crush an attacking fleet with turrets. then launch your ships right after, counterattack.
keep that up, and you will wear out the AI. focus on taking out stations. make the AI slow down and rebuild... the ai slows down in my opinion if you take out stations. yards. refineries. etc.
roms will generally have reserve warbirds if you ever attack their stations. sometimes just going to take out one expansion can take several counterattacks. unless you have a sizable fleet. with cloakable stations, even getting those kills is not always guaranteed. and will generally cost you ships.
