Been loosing to Romulan a lot, if Romulan goes Leahvals (which they should against Borg). However, dorked around with Assim (Leahvals have 90 crew - easy for an assim). Forced the Romulan to go bigger ships... which, granted, are weaker ships relative to most. Holed up in my main (on one moon pair vs romulan's 2 moon pairs - on Duel), early upgrade station, stole a couple of ships with Station Holding  beam (1st research), and generally played a waiting game until I had 3 spheres (x3 regen + (torp or beam)). Then 3 spheres, backed by 2 assims and 1 Ceahler (stolen) engaged and won the deciding battle.

Interesting win.

i am wondering if a mass of scoutcubes would work. usually microing leavhals is quite sticky...and once the lev run out of energy they become WAY worst. So maybe we should try this out in a 1on1 once :)

If it's just 1v1 a small early game fleet of scubes and probes can be produced before the romulans can get enough ships out.  Then it's an easy matter of killing their miners and starving them out.  So long as your spheres are backed up by scubes/probes as a a screen, your sphere will be fine.

The assims are definitely still good on a small map like duel, where you don't have to travel too far.  I can't wait for the speed changes, because they'll become more viable again.  Nice use of switching things up, Yandonman. :D

Aye, the Probes are necessary because not only will they be able to decloak your opponent's vessels, but they don't take CC's :)

And they eat up meta's meant for your Sphere's :).  Sadly they die quickly to the almighty Meta, but them dieing doesn't waste CC's like a Scube or a Sphere does.  Thus they act as a fast damage soaker that can also decloak!

Unrelated:  I DO hope that meta's variance is reduced .... or something ... it's a huge bitch given that it can be used 3 times in rapid succesion.

Hehe, soooo tempting, but not :)

Indeed to decrease the effectiveness of Single Stage, not only did cost and weaknesses get upped, but also in certain cases (Leahval in this case) the special got moderated (as it was definitely too much of a one size fits all weapon).  ^-^

Ah well that's great to hear!

I felt like it actually fit very well along with the other races early destroyer/cruiser direct damage weapons like the proxy torp and the Heavy Disruptor, but the fact that it could be triggered 3 times in quick succession was just a powerhouse tool.

Glad to hear that it's been adjusted .

leavhals definitly are...and gen refit

Gen refits fall quite short of Anti-borg if you ask me.  Spectres fall horribly to Spheres and Frigates can only handle SCubes or below.

All Romulan early-mid game stuff is pulse and beam based.  Torps don't show up until Big D's or *gasp* the Torpedo Refit.

i think you forgot the support refit. i will only say "plasma torpedo"
with some decent micromanagement, some supports can effectively disarm a sphere until  is dies.

In principle, but normally the enemy has far more then 1 sphere, when you have enough generix refits out.
