Long story short...my 2 friends and I decided to have some fun on "High Energy". The configuration was as follows:

1 Merciless and 1 Hard Klingon up top on left (TEAM 2)
1 Merciless and 1 Hard Borg up top on right (TEAM 3)
1 Human Federation (ME) and 1 Human Romulan Bottom Left (TEAM 1)
1 Human Federation and 1 Merciless Dominon Bottom Right (TEAM 1)

So all Team 1 on bottom, 2 other teams, each on either side up top. Normal Resources, no modifiers.

It was a long and painful game. We had figured that the Borg and Klingons would fight with each other for a while, and also struggle for resources, being so close, so we'd have a chance to build up, but no. They act like they alliance until the real players are obliterated, then once we were pretty much screwed, they turned on each other.

My buddy and I on bottom left started barricading ourself in, since we know how the AI behaves on this map. They send ships down to bottom left through the little passageways and they send ships directly to bottom right to obliterate anyone there.

Bottom right was doomed from 5 minutes in. They had assimilators and all sorts of crap in there. The Dominion were crafty and came to bottom left but my buddy held out pretty late, managed to get to our safe haven just in time. We just kept barricading and barricading, and we were fending them off pretty good, until the cubes arrived and we heard "Resistance is Futile". After that it was massacre with little breaks while the Borg would go harass what was left of the Klingon Empire. With four of us concentrated in a little zone, and one mining absolutely nothing, we felt the siege taking hold. We lasted a surprisingly long time (about an hour), which kept our hopes up, but alas, no luck.

You can't send ships out, because they just get obliterated by the invading forces. All you can do is barricade and barricade and hope to hell you can defend your resources. The map is just flooded!!!!

Is this a no-win scenario, the Kobayashi Maru if you will? I understand Merciless and Hard start with handicap. What modifiers will make it equal? We loved the game, but just wish it was a bit more equal. Any strategy suggestions? THANKS

if you set the ai to have equal resources/costs as a human then they will be too stupid to be a fair fight. the only way the ai competes is with spam.

hi, :)

please do not change cost settings.... you ruin the game for yourself.

if you need little "help", change build speed setting for AI to 1.1 or 1.2, that could make AI spam little managable, experiment with this one setting only .

in time you will decrease this number closer to 1 again , when you get "better".

Enjoy !

PS: we will be happy to see all of you , join sometimes person vs person game. No AI can behave like human. We do not use so big mass of ships like AI. You find us inovative, treacherouse, sneaky, brave, even stupid (that one is on me  ), but always looking for FUN.

step 1 enter + showmethemoney

step 2 build like crazy

step 3 enter + levelup

step 4 once you get 90 Defiants proceed to pwn everthing else on the map. :D

You don't use defiant against AI... EVER, they are short range and only have pulses so they are not a very deverse ship anyway, the ai will surround you they wont sit in front of you, defiants are also useless against stations and turrets.

They are the worst choice.

Awww, don't use cheats man, nor unlimited res etc., it will only deny you a good gaming experience.

About your issue: you can easily defeat 3-4 merciless AI alone, or even 5 together, probably alone as well on some maps, the problem here is just the map, and the initial build up (timing is really important).

I would recommend to go down a nutch with the difficulty. Use default multipliers, but set the AI only to normal or hard, and find the proper build for that map. (Well, AI just spams, as Myles already said, so it's mostly defending, expanding, counter spamming ^^)

The map is with the setup you mentioned definitely winable.

What are you talking about. Once they get their extra quantum torpedo attack they mow through everything.
