Why does everyone hate Voyager?

What's your favourite episode? How is romulan ale brewed? - Star Trek in general :-)

Wow, Captain Nice Old Grandma-... Mulgrew seemed to be more of a hard-ass, which was what the role called for.

And, as for everybody fumbling together these enormous diatribes...  If you have that much time on your hands, come over and mow my lawn!  Better yet, out-write them, outright! (Ha!)  The pressure writers are under sometimes with harassing deadlines, trying to appease EVERYONE, and keep on doing it for as long as the story might continue...  It's impossible to tell- one season, seven, or ten?!

Plus, sometimes they'll brainstorm multiple ideas/scenarios, and then somebody else will go ahead and choose or even rework one and green-light it.

They got the ship home without being cancelled; they took longer because they had to keep writing more show; the episodic nature of the show had a little to do with some of the 'wayward inconsistencies.'  "How would I know they've lost a dozen shuttles if I started watching the show halfway through season four?  (which I did)  Do I really care (which I don't)  They found some dilithium and replicated more.  Delta flyer took longer since they were designing it as they put it together, or something. (does it matter? No)

By contrast, tune into your average episode of Enterprise, and its "We have to get them for that thing they did, but all we're going to do for this episode is fly towards it.  Miss the week after next and you won't know what happens... eventually"  CANCELLED!!!!

I liked Voyager. I grew up with it and its still my favorite. I do realize that a lot of you guys make very valid points about voyager, but you have to realize that every series has its ups and downs. I thought DS9 had a few episodes that were very boring, and TNG sure had its moments. My favorite character was the Doctor! I love Robert Picardo, and I got to meet him when I was really young. His character was hysterical, and made opera sound a lot better than it normaly does. I wouldnt really say that everyone "hates" voyager, but were a bit disipointed in it. Also, the Borg were too scary in Voyager. I remember the queen disecting a drones face :S  :borg:

A very good observation.  I do notice that people tend to prefer the trek they grew up with.  Those who grew up on Voyager seem to really love it.  Those who grew up more on TNG really prefer TNG, etc.  Of course, those of us who grew up on Babylon 5 are complete snobs :schmoll:, and hold everything to a much higher standard. :detective:  If you get into the research of these shows like I have, you'll find that the studio executives really didn't want to upset the apple cart (happens all the time), so the writers really couldn't push the show where it needed to go.  My beef with Berman and Bragga is that they were spineless worms who couldn't stand up to the studio like Roddenberry most likely did.  They also had egos the size of the moon, and lorded it over everyone.

I remember in a DVD thing on the Defiant, it was "Mr. Berman this" and "Mr. Berman that".  You begin to get the impression that you couldn't call him Rick.  Whereas on B5, everyone calls JMS Joe.  "Joe's show is amazing, etc."  Spineless worms+big ego= bad TV for all of us. :(  Ronald D. Moore has a nice interview somewhere where he talks about why he left, and how writing staffs have to be tight with each other so that they can work like a well-oiled machine.  But the atmosphere created by the Exec producers (especially Braga) broke that up and Moore decided to leave.  Remember that Moore is the guy who gave us the TNG Klingons, who were fleshed out, had a significant culture, etc.  He's the one that made them awesome, with all their political intrigue.

Anyway, I need to stop writing, because if it's not game related, I really shouldn't care , and I'll probably end up saying the wrong thing, or someone will get mad at more some random thing I've said because that always seems to happen.  Time to set a course....for bed!

I do not hate voyager. Nice stories, more likeable crew than the people round sisko (therefor i love all other characters there). But I consider incredible much more technical stuff as unrealitic, downright rediculous than in TNG and DS9 .

Here is a good essay analysing the good and bad sides of voyager, I quite agree with it:

k since this post was written i started watching voyager again, and while i still like the show one thing that annoyed me was the hostage situations, those phasers have a stun setting why not just stun all concerned hostage and all, might just be me thought  >:D

I will say to the ppl who moan about the inconsistancies and over the top tech, that the 'trek universe' is mostly science FICTION not fact, but certain things are based on what we know about physics and the universe

Infinate speed never happened, both the series crew and Tom Paris agree on that.

An issue mentioned in a lot of these reviews of the show touches on the lack of fuel and supplies that the ship would face. (particularly relevant since the bulk of the reviewers also devote large sections of their websites for endless pseudo-intellectual prattle regarding'Treknology')

Now, I don't have the imaginary tech manual here with me, but don't they use dilithium (found in space, where they are) to power their systems (including the bloody REPLICATORS THAT CAN CREATE ALMOST ANYTHING?!)
-So why would they let the ship go to pieces when the AUTOMATED REPAIR SYSTEM could...
-So why wouldn't they replace lost shuttles when the AUTOMATED REPAIR SYSTEM could replicate and assemble more?  The exception, being the flyer, was that yes, they were designing/modifying as they built.

I'll bet they pawned off that cultural database a few times for supplies too...

Final though, are they going to devote every 3rd or fourth episode to simply watching the crew fix the ship, mine resources, or sit in some alien trading post, despite the fact (implied many, many times) that they did those things?
That would be a similar line of thought to making resource collection in fleet-ops MANUAL.  So that you had to endlessly click your freighters back and forth between the moons and the processing centre.  Fun, huh?

Well, you're taking it to an extreme.  In the series there are barely any episodes about it.  They wouldn't need to make 1/3 or 1/4 of the episodes be devoted to resupplying/repairing/stuff, just more than there already are (which isn't much).  And they could add more variety to how Voyager goes about resupplying, so it wouldn't be nearly as monotonous as you imply.
