You'll love this clip!

Unfortunately, there's a 15 second commercial. No way around it, apparently. But this is definitely worth it.

I dont think this film hits the moral issues that were use to seeing in Star Treak, i myself always thought there was a sense of honor, and integrity, maybe iam wrong. I saw the clip and others and thought its alot like Americian Pie but in Star Treak, if any of you saw the episoed Drumhead , what you saw was a deeper sense of the truth, finding it looking for it, and exploiting it. So many times we see these dam reality shows with no sense of purpose, thats why i enjoyed tng it had a meaning to it, unlike the current film. To me tng wasnt about change but about the chain of command, which by the way is a fantastic episode, follow what you are taught , abide to the rules of the federation and do not sway away from that, Worf made this clear above all honor and duty, just because you can do something doesnt mean you should. In closeing change is a dangerous thing. The new film takes away the values of tng. IAM so dam ticked off with the left-wing attitude that has sunk its ugly claws into everything. You hit the nail squarely on the head navyguy. Althought I dont think that EVERY star trek episode or movie needs such a strong message as examples like "Drumhead," "Who Watches the Watchers," and "The Measure of a Man." Sometimes we need a break, and Im hoping thats what this is. A good action movie with some humor to lighten the mood for awhile, and the characters will have a major moral challenge later. Even TOS and TNG had episodes like "The Trouble with Tribbles," and any of Lwaxana'a major appearances (I dont actually remember specific episode names, sry).
Also, DS9 and Voy had decent moral issues too, even if the Voy ones were rather repetitive. One of my favorite episodes of all time is the one where Sisko brings the romulans into the war, with a little of Garak's rather unorthadox help. Sorry, having a brainfart and cant remember the name of a favorite episode. Thats gonna bug me all night.
Anywho, certian other things not in trek style bug me about the movie as well. Explanations like "I had to shoot the redmatter into the supernova" seem just too simplistic and cliche for Star Trek. What is redmatter anyway. Roddenberry would never have signed off on that one I think. Just a little explanation of How it works would be required, just not so much as to make it outside the realm of scientific possibility. Still, I enjoyed watching the movie, I just tell my non trekkie friends who ask about itjust to say Im crazy if I dont like it, "Its a great movie, go see it, but its mislabled. Its not Star Trek"
Sorry bout the long post, Im odne now.

I don't think you guys realize how ironic your posts are in light of this clip, which was supposed to be funny. The goal was to not take things too seriously.

The fact of the matter is the movie was marketed to people who have never seen Star Trek before, and it worked. People I know who knew nothing of Star Trek and have always thought it stupid went and saw this new film and now they are completely into the mythos of TOS and TNG. While the new movie maybe not have been pure Trek, I honestly have to give it massive credit for absorbing new fans into the whole series who would have otherwise scoffed at it.

True, I did not actually watch the clip until after making my post. In any case, I stand by what I said, and while I have other gripes about this movie which I did not include in the post, I still enjoyed watching it from a purel entertainment point of view. I have usually agreed that star trek needed more acton and comedy both, but here it has been done at the expense of roddenbery's style. To me, it seems the writers decided they had to dumb star trek down to a level where your average infant monkey would get the picture, so that the general public would like it. Oh, and someone had to work REALLY hard to come up with a villian character even weaker than Shinzon, but they pulled it off.

That's very cool, Nephalim. And mythos is the perfect word, I think. I feel this movie helped people "get" trek, where before they hadn't given it a second thought.
