I know STO has some less-than-supportive opinions around here, but this fight isn't too bad. Rescue mission-turned-revenge.
Don't often see a Starfleet ship go all Kill them All! on another race.

yuk, so many complaints.
[list type=decimal]
[*]Why do STO ships have space contrails? i think that stupid effect sums up the game quite well. i cant believe they randomly decided that all ships should leave visible trails.
[*]It looks more like star wars than star trek. BC was way too slow and not enough pew pew, Legacy upped it a bit, but weapons were too weak. STO totally went the other way with lazor spam, PEW PEW PEW PEW KABOOM. it looks like jj trek and star wars. galaxies never fired loads of phasers at once, they put power into a small number of beams usually.
[*]You could fit a runabout in those bridges. why so cavernous?
[*]I think that horrible circle around ships is pointless. its orientation purpose could easily be done better by a box at the top.

Any about the video, not the game?

those were all about the video. but because its a gameplay video, it also applies to the game.
the game could have looked so much better if they had done it properly, as the graphics potential is high.

Remind me never to put anything STO-related in a post again. I know all posts go off-topic, but not often on the first reply. It was about this fight in this particular video, not the game they used.
Not that I disagree with the criticisms, though.

Myles, STO is an MMORPG. Such games usually have relatively low graphical quality when comparing them to single player games (with more or less online involvement). You can'T just set a high res graphics for such massiv online games. Servers would break down cos of trafic overload. Unfortunately that's why MMOs ususally look more clunky and not realistic.
Concerning that circle around the ship - it is an indicator for your shields health. You have 4 shield sections and this one i find a very good solution for the sake of user friendlyness. Space combat is fun in STO even though is quite simple in principle.
The really horrible thing in STO is all concerning ground action (aboard a ship, station or planet). It just feels horrible if you are used to the smooth feel of a single player based game (e.g. Call of Duty, Dungeon Siege, Mass Effect etc.). Again this is the bad things about MMORPGs.YET, it's not recommendable to create a traffic monster that consequrntly lead to server break downs, lags and other online play related malfunctions. Then the game really sucks. It would not even feel good even though that would have been the purpose.
Actually you have to really try that game so you can give a reasonable argument(s) why you don't like it. There are quite some very interesting aspects about the game. But I for my part was in the Closed Beta and was first amazed about the new game experience but later on found that I don't really like MMORPGs in general especially then when they are not released in the state they should have been released (which is the case for STO).

i dont think they should have made it an mmorpg. maybe massively mp, but not rpg, i find that part silly.
a BC like game, but with more mp in it would have been better.

MMORPG seems to be a popular type of game, it's inevitable a Trek one would have arrived eventually. The chances of it escaping the 'Trek game curse' was predictably low.

Not that popular as everybody thinks.
There is only one MMO (I refuse to call them RPG) that is realy big. And all the others together are not taht much played as that one.
I like to see more great SP-games. But in the last year I just played games 1989 to 2005 and just tested some new stuff
.
But STO isn't realy a MMO. Every mission is just for you.
If City of Heroes or how it is named is runnig good as F2Pay STO will go the same way.
That will be the point I'm in. I refuse to pay for a game permanently, because I won't play it for 1/10 of the month. Maybee I will buy some missionpaks.
But I won't pay 100+ €...

yh i agree that paying to play is wrong.
you should be able to buy a game so that you can play it independently, but no they want to retain the power and control and squeeze more money out of players, not gonna happen.

Pay-to-play is even more wrong to those without the money to keep up. I wonder how long until few people are able to play anymore?

Thought I'd try STO (1st time since beta) Having brought the retail box, I simply cannot troll enough about that game with all just reasons. Its a child's game (12-16) and I'll end with that.

I thought that the battle was just fine. The phaser spam was kind of odd though. Having played several space combat sims, I can also say that motion trails are very helpful. If you are in open space, it can be very difficult to judge speed and direction without them.
BC was that way because that's the way battles were in TOS and TNG. Ships didn't really start to move around much until they started using CGI in DS9.
