Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation

What's your favourite episode? How is romulan ale brewed? - Star Trek in general :-)

I was looking and trying my old CD's, when I find this forgotten ST game.
DAMN IT IT'S GOOD. You can choose between 5 different races (federtation, klingon, romulan, cardassian, ferengi) and it's a Turned strategy game. But I want to hear... What do you think about it?
Do any of you know where a ST:BOF community is?

I just recently pulled BOTF out and started playing again too, it's one of my favorite games all-time.

There are still a few groups working on the game. Right now I'm playing with the TrekReal Mod, that messes around with some of the ships, costs and whatever. (TrekReal page). There are a couple other projects about, but not really a whole lot going on.

I have a couple of questions about that MOD, I'm sorry if I'm violating any forum rule.
Do you need the original CD to install that MOD? For example I need the original when to install BOTF original patch
By the way, can I post any pirating and coping post in this forum?

Thanks

You don't need the CD to install any mod, I don't think. I've been running BotF with a no-cd patch, ever since the patch, and I keep the CD hidden away for safe-keeping. Every mod I've ever seen for BotF requires adjustments in just one file anyway.

Isn't the game like 10 years old?

I think it's about 5 years old, 1997 or '98 maybe.

The CD I have is for Windows 95/98.

I may be old, but it's kind of good.
It's a per turn strategy game by Microprose (You won't find good any games of this class of Star Trek). As I said before, 5 different races can be selected. You'll find about 30 minor races who can be your friends or enemies, you can make them join your empire, military or diplomaticaly talking. It has not campaign mode (only multiplayar against the machine, or another player with LAN). It's sounds and music are exellent, and the game play is also good. You don't need a very powerful machine to play it. Tha bad thing is, it's vulnerable against Bugs and crashes.
By the way, does anybody knows if the game can be played by Internet? Does it need any service? (like GameSpy)

Thanks

It used to run on the Microsoft Gaming Zone or something like that, I'm not sure. The only multiplayer I've ever tried was direct connections on a LAN (well, router box), not internet play. If you want to play a game online, check out this site, there's a contact list of people who might be available.

*edit - Don't forget espionage. I love having a strong empire that can bring other players down just with sabotage.
