I installed the game yesterday but im getting the same problems i had when i used vista, i get messed up graphics and the game is completely unplayable. (wanted to play alliances mod)

My specs are

core2duo 1.66Ghz
1gb ram
250gb hd
Nvidia 8600m GS 512mb
windows XP pro sp3

I can play it fine in my virtual machine with XP but its slow because it has limited resources.

sorry if this is the wrong section but i just guessed which would suit it most in my opinion.

I've been playing that alliances mod recently, but armada 1 on xp does suck. my game crashes halfway through playing. I'm hoping this fleet operations mod will be fun though, haven't tried it yet. good luck!

Turn both your video and sound quality/hardware acceleration down 3/4 of the way down.  This has cured the uber lag and glitchy sound for me in the past. And, yes, Fleet Ops is well worth the download.  :borg:

I run Armada 1 on XP Pro without any problems. I don't know why it works on some comps with XP and not others, but it may be the video card rather than the OS in some cases.

This probably won't help most people, but i was having trouble with Armada 1 as well, and was about to give up on the game, but then i realised i hadn't downloaded the Patch... I got the patch 1.2 on my comp, and all the graphics and sound problems i was having went away!

So hopefully that's all that's needed for some of you, as well.

I didn't even bother to test STA1 without applying the 1.2 patch.

Once applied, the game runs smoothly, the graphics and textures are fine, but I still have audio problems. The voices and effects are cut, a phrase may start at the middle, end at the middle, or not be heard at all, even if you know "it should be there". I tried lowering the sound channels from 8 to 2, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. And the other controls in the audio settings seem to me that canot have an impact on the audio behavior, besides disabling voices altogether, that is. :)

EDIT: Update. I've been playing the single player campaigns. The whole Fed campaign goes nice, but I can't get past the second mission of the Klingon campaign. When the game needs to add a wormhole to the map, or make it appear, or whatever, the game freezes.
