JD Payne and Patrick McKay will help write the next "Star Trek" film for Bad Robot and Paramount, according to two individuals familiar with the project. The writers have yet to pen a movie that got made, but they are favorites of both the studio and Bad Robot, which produces the "Star Trek" films.
Payne and McKay already worked on an adaptation of the graphic novel "Boilerplate" for Bad Robot, one of several projects in development at J.J. Abrams' company, which has faith in the writers' abilities.
Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who worked on the first two "Star Trek" movies that Abrams directed, are expected to supervise the writing process.
Abrams will not be directing "Star Trek 3? because of "Star Wars," while Orci and Kurtzman are developing several projects as both writers and producers, including the future "Amazing Spider-Man" films. Their K/O Paper Products banner produced two movies this year and have several more in development.
Bad Robot, Skydance Productions and Paramount also need to work out the deal for director Joe Cornish. They love the idea of working with the "Attack the Block" director, but the deal is far from done.
Payne and McKay are represented by UTA.

If fear, they just continue the cheap Marvel-action-trip in Star Trek dresses. May Captain 'Murica of the USS Democrazy go bomb some species.
The whole movie-refresh just looks like a dark-mirror-mirror-universe to me.

that doesn't reflect on their talent very well.

hallelujah. star wars is a perfect fit for him. since 2009 he's basically been making star wars films, they've just been spelling it wrong. it's about time he actually directed a star wars film. it'd be funny if he actually learned some skill and directed the new star wars film with talent and style.

Here is a new bit I found:
ORCI STAR TREK 3 NEWS
Posted by T'Bonz - 27/01/14 at 09:01 am
Roberto Orci spoke briefly about possible story ideas for Star Trek 3.
In an interview with Orci, the writer was asked if the story for Star Trek 3 would be an original one, or if they would “stay in the classic Trek world.”
“Little bit of both,” said Orci. “Part of the fun of the freedom that we bought ourselves is that you can harmonize with canon and you can echo what’s come before, so you can do it in a new way.”
Star Trek 3 is expected to be released in 2016.

I am not holding out hope for anything different from the first two, even if there is a new director. Like I said for a different movie, even a decent third will not make up for the squandering of 1 and 2.

in the last one they said war with the Klingons is coming, im guessing its going to be a Klingons as the main antagonist.
tho saying that they just started the 5 year mission so maybe they will start off in the same direction and aliens involved.
