Well they're always using those videophone things so I assume they at least have video voice mail. And I think voyager got tons of email when they had that temporary com link to the Alpha quadrant

maybe they took the prometheus out for a test run with minimal crew and got surprised by some cloaked romulan vessel. i don't know how to get a romulan vessel over the neutral zone cause of the sensor net the feds have installed there.

DOCa Cola

How have the romulans ever gotten into federation space undetected, hmm... They obviustly knew about the ship, and had a great deal of info on it for being so classified, makes you wonder how secure the codes are for that sensor net...

the tal'shiar is powerful

Considerign that even the Maquis could get past the sensor net I wouldn't put it past the tal shiar to find a way through, they have a much broader range of intel then the maquis, and all the maquis needed was essintially a lowly ensign, not to meniton the romulans have crossed the border many a time without the federation knowing with the help of just one individual. So I don' t think that the problem lies within the sensor net

the problem lied woth the security on the prometheus.
using about 10-15 people to test an experimental warship. how stupid is that
if i were in command, i would have had it escorted by 2 soveriegns,2 defiants, and 1 akira. that would have stopped the romulan shuttle from even getting close to the prometheus

Oh it's extremely simple to take over a ship with a cloaking device. Send some warbirds with marines to it cloaked, beam them aboard, kill bridge and engineering crew and then suck out the air out of the rest of the ship.

Interestingly enough, has anyone else noticed that there's never any emergency life-support gear around on Starfleet ships? I mean it was a big project for the Enterprise E crew to get suited up to detach the deflector dish in First Contact. Modern naval vessels (especially submarines) have gas masks and oxygen respirators all over the place, hanging from the ceiling etc. Seems like a prudent thing to do in a spaceship too, especially if life support is under attack from a boarding team.

I was just using the air thing as an example. You could set up forcesfields at every possible point preventing people from getting life support gear. Theres alot of stuff that could have been done to kill off the crew.

Beam them all into space, or a SB of some sort. that would be the essest i think. to do any thing else you would ahve to get past all the secondary systems or have a ton of good codes.

Sure thats fine too...

I bet it would be a lot harder for a small boarding team to be fancy with transporters, force fields, and everything else than to just shut off the air, gravity, lights, whatever. Think about it, is it harder to start and create things, or to turn stuff off? A prepared team with grav boots and full enviro-suits could even dispense with selectivity and shut down life support on the whole ship. This would certainly screw the average starfleet ship.

What I was originally saying is how easy it is to take over a ship with a cloaked ship, not to debate on which way is the best...

aye that you were sry, it is a good point, and a fully staffed ship can be taken over just as esly, TNG episode. lol cant remmber it...shoot there was onther one to..ok two, wow i could go on for ever. lol i think it would be save to say the smaller the bording party the eser to take over...hum can we say a bell curve in the works? lol i only i could do it. so dose this mean that the demise of the Federation could be from 11,000 people doing a combiantion of things? LOL (lets see who getts that).
