What's your favourite episode? How is romulan ale brewed? - Star Trek in general :-)

A somewhat amusing (if a slightly unnerving thing to imagine actually happening), joke at Abrams expense. Warning: Sunglasses may be required.

Fascinating how something as simple as random lens flare effects could be so funny...
I couldn't help but shout "Imma firin' mah lazoors!" when Kirk shouted Kahn......

If Abrams redoes Khan I want to be near the front of the angry ST fan mob that kills him. I'd need to borrow a pitchfork and starfleet uniform from somebody though.

haha, the part where Kirk screams Khan is hilarious
I can just imagine it, a Trekkie dressed as a Klingon beheading Abrams with a self-made Batleth.
(Wont be me though, im Romulan
)

That effect has got to be one the most anoying things about the new rendition of star trek. If I see that effect anymore im gonna go grab a machine gattling lazer wazamboomble cannon and shoot up J.J. Abrams re-imagination studio and then stomp a mudhole in his arse then light all his preveious work on fire then dance around it like a deranged ted nugent and THEN..well I dont know what after that but it gonna be good....maybe give bruce willis a call and ask him to re-imagine my stomping a mudhole in J.J Abrams arse into a movie...

And you'd swiftly be murdered by the many-times-larger LOST mob that follows Abrams around. Keep in mind that Abrams is a much larger personality in Hollywood than just Star Trek. He's famous for coming up with things that get people's attention, and Trekkies are famous for being one of the most unforgiving groups out there.

Release date is for 2011 and besides the cast, the only other actor signed is for the role of 'Orange Alien'.

So let's get this flame war started
I hope not but who knows
C'mon folks, I think some of you should relax a bit. I wasn't to happy when I heard that there won't be a new series but a reboot and I couldn't really imagine what a reboot of the show I grew up with, at least over some time, would look like. So out of curiosity I decided to watch the new Star Trek. And in a nutshell: It worked for me as a movie and as far as today it is nothing more but one single movie for itself. It's neither a sequel nor a prequel to anything.
So why did it work for me?
I guess in the first instance because it was nothing like Star Trek at all so I didn't go crazy over looking for parallels. JJ-Prise isn't the Star Trek I knew and I grew up with. But wait, I don't know if Abrams even wanted to recreate it. Someone said something about a reboot and that's what it is.
This is not TOS 2.0 but it's Star-Trek-how-it-would-look-like-if-it-was-created-in-200x.
So it's your choice if you like it or not.
But I can see no reason for freaking out e.g. because Khan will surely be another Khan than all of us know from the movies and the show itself.
JJ-Prise is something completely different. It only uses the names.
Get over it, ignore it if you don't like it, maybe hate it - but please calm down
BSG got a redo and suddenly Starbuck was a woman und Tigh a Cylon. Most of the BSG fans got over it and accepted RDMs show as a new interpretation and stopped looking for BSG 2.0.
If they managed to accomodate with that Star Trek fans in the first place should have no problem at all doing the same.

Or maybe Gene Roddenberry is happy he is not buried on this planet. At least he can't turn in his grave.

Star Trek 2009 was the exact opposite of Roddenberry's Star Trek. It wasn't about the action or the planet saving. It was about a better, if not perfect, future. Star Trek 2009 just recycled the characters from that to make something solely about the action and planet saving with no concern for even basics like balancing genders (Uhura gets treated like crap in Star Trek 2009 and she's barely an important character, every other important character was male.) Even Deep Space Nine with it's less perfect future vision had some good exploration and storytelling. Roddenberry would not be pleased. The new BSG thing is quite different, they managed to pull it off with only the problem (for me) of lots of religious crap. It improved upon the original for the most part, while keeping the old spirit of the show there, definitely a little darker, but still there. New Star Trek replaced the old spirit of the show with something completely different.
