How can a man with over 6000 posts not know the golden rule of FO forums? Any topic, can, and will, be derailed. :D

Why not take the best non-organic computer and improve on it? Ok, so the brain is a pretty damn awesome computer for what it is evolved to do. ie: the processing center to get us to move around, eat, shit, stay warm, reproduce but it is not very awesome when it comes to other tasks such as maths. A man-made computer will always outperform the human brain once you start moving into equations beyond 1+1.
Ok, so the human brain isn't the pinnacle of organic computers... but how would an organic computer custom designed to do (for example) maths outperform its silicon counterpart?
For things like this I always like to refer to tvtropes.org: Organic Technology - Television Tropes & Idioms
Peter F. Hamilton did a half decent job with his Edenist Voidhawks in his Night's Dawn trilogy explaining their reproduction cycle and their biology to some extent, but he also fell prey to the idea that organic ships would be better than those made of metal.

What would happen if the organic ship decided to be more sentient... Maybe get a mind of its own... Metal is cold, but it isn't going to decide to kill you unless... something like a star trek plot happens then it is a free for all.

If it wanted you gone, it could off you easily. When Voyager became 'alive' from the alien that possesed it, it didn't have much trouble chasing away the crew.
