I am almost done watching DS9 on DVD. I think its was the 5th season ep.2 the uniforms changed. There was no reason given for it. Sisko even wore this vest looking deal which was not seen agian. Reminds me of Picards "coat" uniform with the gray.

There was never a reason given for changing the Uniforms in-show, though Captains always seemed to have a second varient. Remember Kirks green jacket with the lop-sided symbol by the waist?

Until Generations the choice of uniforms was quite clear: Captains od ships wore the TNG uniform, others the DS9 uniform. In generations they mixed everything up, resulting in throwing away the TNG uniform for voyager. Everyone had DS9 uniforms then.
However, why they changed to grey... we won't find a canon solution. I liked the red movie uniforms best, btw. Everyone looks good with them, even the average Trekkie. You can`t say that for the tight pyjamas  :whistling:...

Also I saw a federation ship that look like a cross between a defiant class and a bird of pray. At first i thought it was ment to be a fighter but it was larger then a Miranda! Any ideas?

Because star Trek First contact was released during DS9s run and it introduced the new uniforms. It was done to maintain consistency. I like them a lot better, they look more like real uniforms instead of pajamas.

Of course, there are random old TNG uniforms that appear in the latter seasons of DS9, noticed that the other day, in 6x26 "Tears of the Prophets" There's a screenshot attached.

Are you sure you're thinking of the right series? Enterprise uniforms look more like the ones from Babylon 5.

Earth Alliance uniforms look like Enterprise. But Babylon 5 uniforms where different. More like the newer ones in DS9.

25 pages from Google don't seem to bring up any DS9-like uniforms. What part is similar; the TOS-style color scheme or having dark colors? Those are the only similarities I can see with any uniform.

Hey guys calm down its ok! I was just asking a question! Beside all the other sci fi series are all star trek spin offs in a way star gate, 5, andromada was going to be a star trek but for some reason was changed. Even George Lucas admitted star wars was inspired by star trek TOS!!!

In my opinion the Earth Alliace uniforms did look like something between TOS and TNG (and they look realy bad) while the civil war uniform on Bab5 was different (I think it was introduced in season 3. And they said why there are new uniforms :D)
The newer uniform looks more like the later DS9 uniforms - in my opninion. And it was way better then the TNG one ;).
If the ds9 unifor was a reaction on the civil war uniform or if they just thought that they need something new... We could also argue about if the plot of DS9 has changed from normal Star Trek to a red line in reaction of Bab or if the Bab idea has been stolen for DS9.

The only one that is clar. 2 Series about a spacestation and in both series the uniforms where changed from bad to good. :D
