Brief look at DS9

What's your favourite episode? How is romulan ale brewed? - Star Trek in general :-)

Indeed: ships in DS9 usually were blown up in 1-2 phaser or torpedo blasts. Whether they were Bugs, Galaxies, Galors, Mirandas, Excelsiors didn't matter. Oh, only the hero ship (*cough* Defiant) took more shots before exploding of course.

I have to say that DS9 was waaaaaaayyyyyy cooler than TNG. Well except for the episode "yesterdays enterprise" that is my favorite episode of trek ever. Hmm not to get off topic but sisko would lay the smackdown on picard anyday the week.

DS9 had more depth to it I felt than TNG..and not every story was crammed into a one or at most 2 episodes like TNG was.

I liken TNG to suburbia life and DS9 to the "street".

Oh and oooooohh the awesome space battles!!!!

Which does a pretty good job of explaining why you liked Yesterday's Enterprise the most as well I think  :whistling:

Funny too how Runabouts are seen taking extreme punishment from Bugs and the such while many larger ships are destroyed in considerably less.

Also ... that Bug commandeered by the Defiant crew lasts quite a while and through a lot of punishment.  Surely they would realize how easy it is to pop a bug themselves and run like a fat kid going for cake.

DS9 writers must have seen too many Ninja movies...

The best DS9 episode is either Trials and Tribble-ations or Past Tense I and II. The better of the two storys is Past Tense but the other one is a lot of fun.

DS9 was a great show in my opinion, but it was Star Trek in name and universe only. The best term I could think of was "DS9 was like an experiment: Take the Star Trek universe and break the Star Trek-formula to create something else. Something with federation at war and not new story per episode but continously told story from episode to episode."

The only thing I hate about it was that season 7 was messed up with Dukat being a fire-magic sorcerer and let us watch him being involved in a magic-book/love-story with Vinn and the "don't open the book"-guy half of the season. Kind of disrespectful to the ST-universe. The only explanation in my view is that the good ideas were out since season 6... Tears of the prophets was the ending of them.

Anyways, my favourite part of DS9 is essentially the time between the first contact with the Jem'Hadar and the start of the war, because of the smart written acting of the Vorta as the diplomatic frontliners to gain influence in the alpha quadrant and the founders in the background infiltrating key positions in the major governments of alpha and beta quadrants. The klingon attack was a good example how bad ass the dominion is acting already >without< their military forces. The Vorta as the brilliant talkers and manipulators/traders and the founders just claiming to be an important person here and there while keeping the original captured faaaaaar away and endangering the peace between federation and klingons. Great story arc!

No actually I think I like that episode the most is because of the story...the "what if"....seeing the same charecters but in a different timeline. And the story of one ship making a difference....the symbol of honor. Actually there are a lot of reasons. Also that was a father son moment for me and my dad as well....we actually discuss that episode on a regular basis and debate further "what ifs" from that timeline. I felt though DS9 did a kinda crap job with their "what if" episodes. They were ok and had some good humor and an awesome defiant vs supersized nehgvar sequence but somehow (at least for me) lacked..something.....

Like an evil, sadistic Federation maybe?

I like my sadism and my future possible social progress in at least separate browser tabs.  Putting them in the same show is just torture (which is ironic, maybe the show's producers were modelling the federation off of their own torturous selves.)
