What's your favourite episode? How is romulan ale brewed? - Star Trek in general :-)

ok i was wondering if borg have normal warp like other races in the show , i know they have trans warp but that a different topic
the only reason im asking is because if it worked like normal warp the field would have to b incredibly massive
so anyone know the answer

Seriously? Did you watch TNG episodes? There's a lot of Borg episodes where they go to warp 10+ and over take the Enterprise. They never explained how Borg use warp though.

lol the reason i asked was that according to the show warp 10 causes allsorts of probs eg deevolving
but the borg travel warp 10+ is trans warp not normal warp (trans warp=greater distances in less time)
and if i understand correctly trans warp conduits arent in normal space they are in some sort of sub space

i can answer this
the borg have normal warp drive and use it the most transwarp is costly to have on every single ship running all the time
first contact:
borg cube heading *** speed warp 9.(gets cut off by borg) but im assuming they can warp at warp 9.999999999999 (voyager goes at max warp 9.975)
in voyager the sphere had transwarp drive but was goin at low warp due to regenerating damage from ion storm but has traswarp capability used to take 7 of 9 back to qween home unimatrix
then in the last episode of voyager u see the transwarp hubs with permanent transwarp corridors kept open by the hub and extra circle hubs at certian points alone the corridor and there is over 4 of them in the galaxy
so yes the borg have normal warp and use it alot more oftern than transwarp there ships are big so they need a large warp field but since the borg use a much larger power source than anyone in the alpha/beta/gamma quadrents (they dont use matter/antimatter drives they have sommit better) they can move there very large ships in warp with greater speed and efficancy than anyone else and have power left over to fight (tng first borg could regenerate and shoot while outpacing the enterprise)

ninjad by alan!
Borg use transwarp to go really long distances, and use warp to go shorter difference. Transwarp was presumably assimilated by the Borg around TNG's 6th season and was first seen in Descent part I and II.

Actually, the episode where that happened (Threshold) has been removed from canon and is the only episode to have had that treatment.

if u remember the TOS wen soem wierd people took the enterprise and tried to leave the galaxy or sommit they said warp 12 also in the last TNG admiral riker said head back to the system at warp 13
andyea im good on ninjaing at times

Those are examples of differing warp scales.
If the novel Vendetta is an accepted source, Borg cubes can do warp 9.9999999. Not as fast as subspace radio, but faster than anything that anybody else can do. Largely because of one thing. Power.
High efficiency warp cores + near limitless power (if not actually limitless) and a lot of the problems of maintaining absurd speeds go out the window. However, even the Borg are stuck with the Warp 10 threshold, which is why they also have Transwarp, for when they need to get somewhere even faster.

The warp scale is exponential past warp 9. So warp 9.999 will be quite a bit faster than 9.99. It will also use a hell of a lot more power (energy).
It seems to me that there are two types of transwarp; permanent conduits held open by the transwarp hubs which are weaved across the galaxy, and temporary ones that are created in a similar way that warp drive works, except transwarp involves piercing space and entering a subspace domain. The permanent conduits are the fastest. I would expect that warp drive could reach the speeds of the temporary transwarp drive, but the energy required to do so would be immense in comparison to that required of transwarp.

or the cube heading to earth at normal warp was simply going along a path where no conduits had been placed yet. maybe that cube itself was placing the conduits along its path, which allowed voyager to return home in endgame.
