Xbox Live anyone? (or psn)

And I would argue that even though it is third person against first person, Uncharted(naughty dog) beats out Halo. I loved halo, but I think Uncharted is better. Heck, I have even converted diehard CoD fans into Uncharted lovers.
But, really, weather one game is better than the other is usually prefrence. I would say without a doubt that ps3 has more popular exclusives than xbox does.
i actually mentioned a lot of those. i mentioned resistance and uncharted (both insomniac titles) and i combined all the racing games into one. i'd definitely recommend a ps3 for racing gamers, it dominates that. xbox only really has forza to itself for racing. several of the titles you mentioned i haven't even heard of.
i have to concede that ps3 has numerically more exclus at the moment, a few years back xbox had several series to itself, ie Saints Row and Dead Island, but both of those diversified (which is good for everyone).
speaking as a gamer who doesn't own either xbox or ps3, the xbox exclus have a much higher profile and positive aura around them than the larger number of ps3 ones. personally i'm glad exclus are a dying trend, they were stupid to begin with.
M$ took a gamble on the hd disk format wars, and lost, but thankfully the rest of the console carried them along. sadly bluray isn't that relevant either, i can download hd stuff over the internet anyway. so i don't even have a bluray drive. optical media is in a weird state now.
halo 2 was no kids game, it's easily the hardest game in the halo series on legendary.

I'll just sort of siddle in here and say that, as the owner of both consoles, neither has an edge in my opinion.
The PS3 seems slightly more powerful in terms of hardware, and the fact that it doubles as a blu-ray player makes it all the more attractive to someone upgrading from the previous generation.
I'd have to say that the PS3 edges out on games due to Uncharted, Infamous, and the fact that the PSN offers some of the old Final Fantasy games. I dislike shooters , so Halo only has an allure in terms of storyline. The XBOX does have Fable though, so that's a couple of points in its favour.
However, I find the XBOX controller much easier to use. It's probably because I've had it a lot longer (going on three years now, I bought a PS3 after christmas), but that's still a plus point. I don't play online, so the free silver account is fine for what I need.
I've also got both Move and Kinecy. Neither of them work too well (though they're better than the WII. That thing's not been used in over six months) and they both seem more like gimmicks than anything. Neither console earns any points for their motion controller departments.
I'll add that were it not for the fact that Final Fantasy XIII was released on both consoles I would have waited and bought a PS3. Exclusives work in terms of selling consoles, but they do put even more restrictions upon gamers.
I'd also disagree with regards to blu-ray being irrelevant. The tele' in the living room is often the largest in the house, and is usually the most advanced. My computer screen is half the size and whilst it does have a higher resolution it doesn't compare with lounging on the sofa with a fifty inch screen hanging on the wall. Plus the internet is hardly a reliable source. If you have a slow connection or a data cap then you're not going to be able to do much with it. Now that iPlayer is available on both consoles I don't watch anything on the computer screen.

kinect and move may be gimmicky, but the wii's controllers are a strong point. the only console i own is a wii, i had the funds for either wii or 360 and i chose the wii, and that decision was right. the wii won this round of the console wars with plenty to spare. it's funny to see 360/ps3 fanboys shouting at each other and ignoring the wii, degrading it for lacking hd, yet it's still the winner of this console war by a country mile, and the 360 had an extra year on both its competitors.
tv is indeed bigger and usually a better experience, hence plug it into a computer (eg laptop). that's what i do and my tv is budget 32 inch tv. internet is reliable, if you have a crappy/slow connection then get a better one. internet subscriptions aren't really that expensive these days, and are much cheaper than repeatedly buying expensive bluray media. bluray didn't have a big impact on computer storage either, with dirt cheap network storage/external hd/cloud storage. i don't use optical media for any storage needs these days.
i think optical media in general is getting squeezed hard, psvita has abandoned it, ds/3ds never had it, storing files is done other ways, all that's left is home video and games distro. and games are more frequently being distributed online as well, even for consoles. bluray hasn't killed dvd either yet, and i don't see dvd going away for a fair few years yet, it still has acceptable quality.
i don't know what the future of optical media in general is, i don't think for one minute it's gonna go away for years, but i think it's done growing, now it's about stopping the slide to inevitable decline.

Heh, I HATED the original XBox controlers. Bigh bulky fragile things.

But what do we care? Nothing beats a keyboard and mouse.

As far as bluray goes, I have a 46" Sony LED tv, and it is pretty sweet, but most of the time I watch netflix or Hulu. Playing dvds and blurays are nice, but I don't even need a console to play neftlix and hulu. Physical media is dying right now. That is not to say that I don't still use it, but I think online and streamed video will overtake it if it hasn't already happened. Soon, things like slow internet connections won't be an issue for anyone.

GCN controllers were ok, personally i first used PSX controllers and got used to them, but i've played on many controllers since and really once you get used to them they all do the same job. even the original nes controller was good enough at its job. maybe not so good after hours and hours though.

The one thing xbox beats playstation in is Forza is better than Gran Turismo!!!
I'm ordering this baby tomorrow. I can't wait till it gets here

and of course it comes with pedals and a shifter. $300 but it's worth it

Like you mentioned, ps3 has GT5, which has its own wheel and pedals, however I wouldn't be surprised if Forza is better. I was not really impressed of GT5 besides the graphics. It wasn't a good racing game for me, it is more of a driving simulator.

Forza is a simulator too but I think it appeals more to casual players than gt5. If you thought gt5 had good graphics you should see forza's, they'll blow your freakin mind. Search up forza 4 autovista on youtube

i've never played racing games much so i couldn't comment on which is better.
i think i played the original gran turismo, didn't enjoy it much, rarely played it.

From what I see, it definitly has better light and materials, but I think that GT5 had better shadows. Either way, I am with myles.
the only racing games I like are Mariokart and WipEout

Ah, yes, part of the reason I love that game. All of the voices have English accents.

It is similar with Uncharted. Most of the characters, all except for Nathan and Sully, have some kind of European Accent. Makes a really good game with the vocal diversity.
btw, I was doing some research on Uncharted. Turns out, it was indeed made by NaughtyDog and not Insomniac. They have a close partnership, but Insomniac made the Spyro and Ratchet and Clank series, while NaughtyDog made the Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter(similar to ratchet and clank) and Uncharted series. They work together though on the projects though, so it would be easy to say they both made all of the games.

my mistake on uncharted, i should have fact checked it more.
psygnosis are probably my favourite developer for psx (some of their games even had pc ports), they did so many games i loved, Gpolice series, colony wars series, overboard, wipeout series, and destruction derby.
i remember i had a scratched disc for destruction derby, so it would crash my psx all the time. wipeout used to lag pretty bad, i think its disc was knackered too.
