Vengence Mod?

Wasn't there a topic where we were discussing that mod for a bit? I know there was...
Anyway, I downloaded it and gave it a whirl....as Gord would say, "The Tiberius was not impressed." Sure, it had a lot of new content to it, but a lot of it was poorly or incompletely done. The .odfs were in particularly bad shape. No ship names, no descriptions, bad build names, etc. Also, a lot of things seem out of balance, especially as far as cost goes. Take the ship for the Feds that I can only find refered to as "Ultima". It's basicaly that prototype slipstream ship from Voyager. It costs 6000 lith and 2000 metal. It has 1 phaser, 1 torp, and unimpressive shields/hull. It has the slipstream drive with limited range, the one shot storp that does kill much, and then a phase cloak. Might be one other thing, but I'm not sure. A single Romulan Scimitar took two of them out when they used slipstream drive to ambush it. 12000 lith down the toilette.
I also noticed a few other minor bugs, mostly with some of the "special" features.
All in all, not a horrible mod. 7 out 10. I did like the AI. Challegening without being rediculous.

should this not go in either star trek or small talk?
anyway yeh i played it (for a short while) stopped because of stablity issues, don't know if that was me or the mod. loads of new content was spoiled by a seemingly half-hearted attempt to put it together, could probably have been much better. probably put costs so high to stop people from building incredible masses of ships, being there so many to choose from.

I figure it's a general thread and people could use a break from "Is it out yet?" "why have they not posted?" "i wanT!" topics.
Hmm...perhaps if I get bored this summer, I'll go clean up all the poorly done elements. Just doing the .odfs right would make it an awesome mod....

I may just do that. I've been bored out of my skull lately. I literally have nothing to do this summer. I have a job, but it's working for some lawyers, so I only work for like 2-3 hours at a time and I get paid a flat fee for working (I clean their airplance) so I can't even turn to a job for distraction. I need to go get RE4 for the GCN...supposed to be pretty cool.....or perhaps I'll save the money so I can take my friend out shoping for her b-day. I'll go peak at the .odfs later and give you a post if it turns out well. Heh, .odfs take 30 seconds each to make, much less edit, so it's not like it'd be hard..might even be fun to play around with A2 modding again....
UPDATE: I went and looked at all the .odfs for that mod, it won't be hard to make a vast improvement. I'm going through and making sure all units have a helpful verbose tool tip and regular tooltip and I'm also tweaking a few things, cost and shield numbers mostly, just to improve gameplay.

. When your finsihed, maybe you could let the original creators know (if they're still around) and show them all the changes and corrections you made.

just was a bit busy for a few days.
Creating a good and uniform balancing system is a very time consuming progress
We now spent over a year to get from Beta2 to something better in V3 and are still working on it (also we found a new line now, I'm currently recreating the ODFs).
I do really recommend to do a chart, an excel table or something. That helps you keeping an overview over all these nasty vessels

I tried the Vengence Mod, man, I've never seen something SO badly put together, a snail could do a better job, all those models in the game are made from other mods, it's a bad atempt at a combo.

The concept of the mod is very good, I like it. However, the execution was just piss poor. Just getting it so everything is labeled right will be a major improvement.
As far as balance goes, that won't be overly hard to correct. I've always been more in favor of realism, and then using intelligence during game play to balance things out, so it's not a top priority. Most of it's decent enough as is. Thanks for the tip though Optec.

Update:
Got the Dominion ships done. The Imperials, Klingons, Federation, and Romulans remain to do, as well as the stations for all races. I also need to rebalance some of the weapons. I discovered this after playing a game and finding that a volley of 12 proton torps was insufficient to do any serious damage to even a scout vessel.
I was playing around with the Deathstar and SSDphys files and...yeah, I think I won't be touching those again. :-P I dunno if I did it or if it was just messed up before hand, but the Deathstar flies backwards and I'm SOOO gonna have to turn the normal space speed back down. THat and tweak the shields of that monster DOWN...WAY the hell down...and less regen too. 32 SD's and a Soveriegn SSD, as well as a normal SSD, coudln't even get the thing down to 99%. Oh and must re-do the Super Laser...panzy weapon it is.....
