Want to say something off topic? Something that has nothing to do with Trek? Post it here.

i hace ben thinking for a while about temporal mecanicanics i now realise that it is impossable to change the past but you can the future as long as you make no contact with your self hear is my you cant change the past reasoning

ok let say i wanted to stop perl harbor from happining id go back in time and have it not happin but if i did i wouldent have tried to stop it in the first place wich means it would happen wich means i would go basc wich means it wouldent happen so i wouldent happen so i dont go back and so on and so on

as for the feture you can change it but that means that you future self wouldent exist but you would their fore time would continue in a semi regular way

but i am intrested in hearing more theories and comments on temporal michanics their fore please offer input

Me and a few friends where coming up with theroies about time travel, right we also come up with this, everything has to have an oposite for you to know what it is, ie on has to have off, hot has to have cold, good has to have evil , preator has to have ewm90 etc :P

In this universe the faster you go the slower time goes (proven fact the shuttel goes so fast its clocks are a few micro seconds out of syn with husten every time! So imagine how out of sync it will be at near speed of light!) So if you go at speed of lightyou could travel for a second and 10 million years could go for example. so how do you get back in time then? well thats where the opposite come in, in this universe time is running fowards, in an opposite universe time is going backwards, so if you can swap between opposite universes then you can then go backwards in time, and swap back to our universe again when you have reaced the desired time and place etc. If you wish to freeze time then you need to travel at the speed of light.

Another theroy we discussed was IF, (IF = HUGELY UNLIKELY!!!!!!!!) you can travel to a blackhole and slingshot around it then you can travel back in time.

I was getting the idea that if time travel was invented in the future there may be time travelers walking among us, studying us to see what it was like in the 'dark ages', of course since the future hasn't 'happened' yet is it possible that there is no future in the timeline until we arrive in it?

aye, has anyone seen dragon ball z? in it it shows you that you can not change the timeline, but you can swap time lines. a character called trunks try to travel back in time to warn the others, he is successful however when he goes back it is still the same, but it still had changed in the time he had visisted, this was because he had swapped time lines not travelled through time but jumped between them.

travaling back in time and changeing things is very posible

Say if one wanted to stop perl harbor one could go back in tim and do it BUT at that point another parralle universe would branch off and that would be the new timeline and traveling between these universes is even theretically imposible so one would be "stuck" in this new timeline where things are different because you created it by changing an event (these timeline branch out at every time unit (quantum loop gravity) in infinate quanities) (see below (the dotted lines don't reallly exist and shouldn't be part of the diagram but are nessacary for it to display correctly)

--------------------------------------------------_______________________________
-------------------------------------------------/ new time line that you are "stuck" in
______________________________/_______________________________
-------------------------------------pearl harbor---------------------- your old time line
-------------------------(point where you change things)

Steven Hawkin's "a breif history of time" explanes it even better (yeah i can't do as well as the world's smartest person, but i can try)

lol i can, i still like my idea, and never trust the smart people, they said nothing could escape a black hole, then last year stewven hawking discoverd haking radiation, radiation a black hol gives off. they said the earth was flat then they said it was round, they said it was impossible to fly to the moon we flown to the moon, science will always contradict its self, even the laws of physics can change if we get a brak through.

I hate temporal mechanics, so ill just say:

but remember most breaktroughts needed a disaster like wars to happen, atomic bomb, gunpowder, airplpane technology, rocket technology(we wouldn't have been to the moon if it wasn't for WW2) , jet engine, cochrane's first flight :D so let's hope that the next braketrough in science or technology won't come at that big a price

Time travel... the one only thing I hate with the fire of a thousand suns... How I see it it all comes down to this: If we have a destiny, if things are ment to happen to us then time travel wouldn't cause any damage because it was your destiny to go back and change that thing.

But, if we don't have a destiny then time travel = bad. If we would go back in time then the timeline would split since you simply being there would make everything head another way. That single drop of water you drink might have been ment for the guy that would create world piece if he would have gotten some water to drink. But now you messed that up and everything takes a GIANT left turn where it was supposed to go to the right.

but the original cairo's theory blows yours out of the water

*Yawns* You mean this? *Points up* No it wouldn't. See, according to my second theory the things statedabove would never happen. Because at the moment of the choice time would split into two rivers. ((We will make it two since it's easier to understand but in reality, each choice we make has an unlimited amount of time lines sprouting from it)) One is the "correct" one and one is the "wrong one...

GAH! I'm no good at explaining these things... It's like i'm watching all of these ideas and theories I have through a keyhole... thanks to that they often don't make any sense or are incomplete and I feel that if I could only open that stupid door I would be able to understand everything.

Anyway, Tiberious726 theory is similar to mine but there is something different that I just can't explain.

okay look now i've got another one. of you go to the future, and if you happen to need something, let's say a hammer, and at that moment you decide, that you'll go back to the past, place a hammer at a location and return to the future........now my question is, would the hammer be there at the moment you decide to put it there, becuse from that timeline's stand point you have already travelled to the past and put it there.

Well, that would work if it was say... 5 minutes into the past. But I belive that after 30 minutes or so, someone will probably have moved it. and if we are talking years then there is no chance that it will remain.

well that's a metter of the place where you put it, but those aren't temporal theories anymore(if you burry it into the ground for ex)
And if my theory is correct, you can get anything in the future, if you decide without a doubt that you will get them in the past, which means, that stuff happen without ever actually accuring, and that is impossible

the fate theory is discarded from time travel because in fate time traver makes no diffrence in a realaty whear nothing is decided time travel can be deadly if i went back in time and told true man not to drop the bomb but to invade then i would not exist their fore he would drop it. my temporal theories in the past become parradoxes or parrodioies or what ever also their is the survive theopr whear if you change tome you are stuck whear you changed it and then history must be re writen my thories include run back wich means that someone is living it every second so their is alwalys an alternant me but an infanent amount of me beccause as you live the path is pre dicided you just think you have a choice
