Hey guys,

Just read a flawed news of the STO Season 4 update in June which is ment to have several new features and a complete rewamp of ground battle... how does it look like exactly? I know there are some who play STo on this forums so I just ask you. I heard something about third person view and what not... but it was all very vague.

Hi Jan,

The season 4 update is going to have a variety of new features, but the 'big 2' are ground combat overhauls and a new "duty officer" system.

The ground combat overhaul is much needed, probably the worst part of the game right now are away missions.  They are redoing all existing ground weapons so that they are more diverse.  Currently they all look different but function basically the same.  Also they are making it so that you have a targeting reticle so you can aim at mobs yourself, instead of how it is now where it just auto locks on and targets for you.  You can even zoom in to a first person mode.  Cryptic was stressing that this isn't a ground combat change or overhaul, but that it's a complete redo.

The duty officer system is basically a card game where you collect officers 'cards' and you can use them on your ship to boost your stats, or send them on away missions where they will bring back exp or loot or whatever after they complete thier mission.  There is a chance they could be killed in the process too (especially if they are wearing a red shirt).  Supposidly you can level up your character without firing a single shot with this new system, among other things.

Thats the long and short of it, hope it helps!

Thanks ibench! It helped alot! Today I found the time to check the STO forums for the latest engineering report....and what I read made me absolutely want to check it out once it's there. If they really make it sorta third person shooter in ground combat they actually did what was requested so often during closed beta back in 2009! Also that Foundry feature creates a warm fuzzy feeling inside my chest...
