OOC: Of course... Just repost that bit about the Stardust chasing a Cardy vessel and make it so the Stardust bumps into the Adelaide by the nebula (the Stardust is now the ship the Adelaide stumbles across by the nebula, rather than being a distance out and detecting the Adelaide and the Card vessel together and then heading to the nebula, as it does in your original post)...

If you like, you can add the Romulan freighter to the nebula's vicinity as well (I.E. The Stardust is examining the wreck by the nebula when the Adelaide happens to bump into them)...

IC:
The U.S.S. Stardust had been cruising for several hours before any further evidence of the Cardassian vessel was discovered.

"On screen", Captain Alex Logmar commanded as the gleaming Excelsior class starship came to a halt in front of the wreckage.  It was a Romulan freighter, shrouded in a cloud of its own debris.

"No life-forms sir; in fact, very little organic matter at all, the crew must have been taken," declared Lieutenant Davie Meyers.

"Can you tell what the freighter was carrying?", inquired the Captain.

"Not a clue, can't even tell if it was carrying anything at all."

"Alright", replied the captain, "get into the computer and get me the ship's manifest, then we're out of here."

"Captain, federation ship approaching...it's the Adelaide."

"On screen."

OOC: Is the Stardust in the Excelsior variant or in the Lakota/Enterprise-B variant? Also, what's its registry number?

IC: "Sir, it's actually two vessels," Kevin corrected himself, though this had already become plainly obvious one the view screen. "As you can probably see, one's a Romulan freighter... though it looks inactive... The Excelsior class vessel there is the USS Stardust... they've been assigned to investigate possible Cardassian piracy for the last month or so... I'd guess that freighter is the pirate's latest victim... I wonder what they, not to mention the Romulans, are doing all the way out here, though..."

"The Stardust is hailing, sir."

Albert Harris was one of what was rather a dying breed in the Federation... In recent years, communications officers were increasingly being seen as an unnecessary expense. Captain Baker had known better than that, however. In his opinion, it simply wasn't good enough to rely solely on the universal translator, which was far from foolproof, even when translating known languages... It was simply no substitute for someone who could really understand the subtle nuances of different languages... and thus, when captain Baker read the resume of this young academy graduate from the colonies, which included fluency in almost a dozen alien languages and linguistics expertise, he was quick to request Harris be assigned to the Adelaide as communications officer.

His talents when beyond talking to people, however. With the help of the chief engineer, he had made the Adelaide's slightly unreliable computer core run like clockwork, and held the ship's record for retrieving information from the library computer. Computer code was just another language to him, apparently...

"On screen," Henry replied.

"I have Captain Alex Logmar on screen, sir."

The image of the Excelsior class' bridge replaced the outside image that they had been looking at a moment before. Henry's expression was a professional, if slightly curious one... he wanted to know what was going on...

"This is captain Henry Baker," he announced, knowing the Stardust would have already IDed his ship, making declaring its name unnecessary. "Forgive my frankness, but we were unaware any other Federation vessels were deployed this far out..."

OOC: NCC-62045, excelsior class similarly modified as Lakota but w/out quantum torpedoes.

IC: At the words of Captain Harris, the Stardust's 1st officer, Commander Ben Jones, risked a nervous sidelong glance at his captain; Logmar regarded the other captain.  "As it should be, Captain; the Stardust has been closed to all long-range communication channels for quite some time, as per Starfleet's last orders.  Our mission has not deviated significantly from our recorded assignment, but it has developed into something far more...sensitive."  he gave a slight cough before uttering the last word.  In truth, sensitive would be a bit of an understatement if his and Starfleet's fears turned out to be justified.

After a short moment of contemplation, Logmar returned his gaze to the viewscreen.  "Perhaps we could share a meal this evening captain, on the Stardust, if you are not too pressed for time?"

At the words of Captain Harris...

That's captain Baker!

IC: Henry mused at his fellow officers words for a moment, taking the time to sip some more of his coffee, but never breaking his eye contact with his fellow captain. What had Logmar meant by "sensitive"? Was there anything the Adelaide could do? The Adelaide's immediate assignment was a protracted, long duration survey mission, mapping stellar phenomena like the nebula that hovered nearby, so Henry was in no great hurry, and decided, despite his burning curiosity, against asking Logmar anymore about the Stardust's mission... for the moment, at least...

"Certainly, if you can spare the time, of course..." Henry replied. "Surely I needn't point out that "this evening" is 12 hours away? Perhaps lunch at 10 or 1100 instead?"

Henry had always been a rather frank person... It always 'to the point' with him... He disliked beating around the bush and waiting patiently... he wanted to know what was going on, but hoped he didn't betray that fact with his body language... uncertain if he might have given himself away...

OCC:

U 2 seemed a bit lonely so I'll join...

So my vessel is a Son'a battleship.

pics:

http://www.neutralzone.de/database/Alie ... ship05.htm

Not much on the stats of a Son'a battleship but I found the weapon compliment:
2 Isolytic Torpedo Launchers (forward)
4 Photon Torpedo launchers (all foward)
5 Medium Phaser (2 forward, 3 rear)
5 Light Paser  (3 forward, 2 rear)

I also found that the ship is almost double the size of an akira class so I'd guess the crew about 700....

Length: 835 meters
Width: 1,075 meters
Height: 150 meters

Any other info would be gratefully acepted..

Now the changes  :D:

Name of Ship: Ghost
Name of Captian: Jakob Kontje
Crew: 350 (1/3 human; 2/3 various alien species...)
weapons: replaced one aft medium phaser with a photon torpedo launcher, also capable of firing Isolytic Torpedos
and 2 of theforward light phasers with lllF (Romulan) disrupters
other: romulan cloak, new warp core, enhanced thrusters

I believe this ship is powerful enough... say that 2 almost toke out a Sovereign....

Sorry, no idea on max. speed, shield strenght a pretty much any thing else which isn't stated here...

IC:

Captian Kontje was sitting in his captian chair, savouring his new ship which he had just "accuired" 2 months ago. Being a mercenary, life was not always easy... Just out of the shipyard for the refits he had wanted, Jakob wanted to test his new vessel...

His first officer, Giulia Shaper aproached him in her usual stealthly manner,"Captian, Engineering reports, that they are ready for warp, the last checks are nearly complete." "Excellent, then prepare for warp. Pick a direction you'd like... We'll probably find work somewhere..."

5 minutes later the soft humm of the warp engines came to life... Having spent the last 3 days suppervising the refit, Captian Kontje decided to finally have a nap.

4 hours later, he was disturbed by the comm. coming to life. "Captian, maybe you should come to the bridge". Hurryingly getting dressed, Jakob raced to the bridge to the bridge. Arriving, he ask for the situation. "Long range scans have detected 2 Federation ships... An Akira-Class Heavy Cruiser and anExcelsior-Class Explorer.", his tactical officer reported. "I thought they might need our help or information seeming that they are circling around a field of debis..." his first officer reported.

"Hmm, yes, set a course and raise the cloak. We have to be good if we want to be hired... Apro. ETA?"
"Aye, sir. 3 minutes, sir."

Shortly after, Ghost droped out of warp. "Place us infront of their noses and then drop the cloak, and do not charge weapons. Prepare to raise shields if necessary."
"Aye, sir"
"As soon as we drop the cloak, open the comunication frequency's. I want to talk with them..."

"This is the cruiser Ghost. Can we be of assistance?"

OCC:

I hope it's not to terrible... I tried... Any feed back would be nice  :pinch:

OOC: That's perfectly alright, Leokadia... nothing wrong with that post... would have been good if you had confirmed the species of the people mentioned, though...

IC: Henry had just finished speaking when the perimiter alerts on both ships pierced the air... Henry nearly upset his coffee mug as he is hand scrambled to the buttons on the side of his chair.

"Sir! Son'a battleship decloacking, dead ahead!" Kevin called out.

The warship was significantly wider than it was long, it's imposing chevron-like form seeming to suddenly fade into existance between the two far smaller Federation vessels. Henry was alarmed and was about to call for red alert when Kevin spoke up again...

"Their weapons are unpowered, sir," Kevin reported, sounding calmer now.

Kevin was about to report further on what his sensors were telling him when ensign Harris interupted him...

"We're being hailed," Albert reported.

"On screen," Henry ordered.

The screen once again changed from an external view to a split screen com channel, with this new vessel's captain on the left and captain Logmar of the Stardust on the right, as the channel to that ship was still open...

"This is the cruiser Ghost. Can we be of assistance?"

"This is captain Henry Baker of the Federation starship Adelaide," Henry responded. "What can you tell us about this disabled freighter?"

OOC:

Okay, now you will know a bit more about the crew...
On and 2 more modifications: :D

1: enchanced thrusters
2: the aft torpedo laucher also lauches subspace weapons
and the disrupters are now lllF

ANd considering the size the ship might have about 20-30 decks...

IC:

"Maybe I have some information for you. Please allow me to check."

Nodding at his Communications officer, Jakob said: "Mute it."

Jakob swiveled to face Saran, his andorian tactical officer. "What can you tell me about the freighter?"
"Standard J-4 Baydron class Romulan freighter. Multiple hull breaches. I am getting reports of Starfleet and Cardassian weapon signatures."
"Any warp trail?"
"I am reading some particles but because of their dispersion rate and with the interference of the star fleet vessels,  it is impossible to determine where it leads."
"Hmm, Star Fleet you say? Maybe it was them."
"But that would not explain the Cardassian weapon signatures.", Leer, Jakob's Vulcan science officer countered.
"So probably a pirate. We had our database updated with the most recent pirate activity here didn't we? Check our database maybe you'll find something. Any sign of the crew?"
"No life signs, sir. They were probably taken."
"Wasn't that girl we bought of the Orion Slaver a Romulan? Maybe she knows something about this." Giulia, the human first officer noted.
"Hmm, yes, send for her as soon as this communiqué is over."

Swiveling back to face the view screen, Jakob nodded at Tau're, his Romulan communications officer.

"Hello again, we have detected a faint warp signature but are not able to determine where it leads. Also we may know what happened to the crew. But there would be the slight problem that we usually get paid for our work and information. We have to feed ourselves."

Quick question: what happens to a ship that ejects it's warp core? Does it lose main power or what?

Well, a Trek ship doesn't rely solely on its matter/anti-matter reactor for power... most ships have secondary non-M/AM reactors and may also have seperate reactions for their impulse as well, which also provide power. Also, the Galaxy's saucer section was designed to fuction without a warp core, but I guess that's not the same thing...

However, after ejecting its core, a ship would still probably have enough power to keep basic systems (life support, impulse engines, main deflector and basic sensors) running... it would be pretty stupid if a ship didn't have enough in the way of auxillary power generation capacity that it is basically dead in the water after losing its core (though the loss of the warp engines is pretty 'dead in the water' anyway...).

Hmm... o the ship would have power, but considerably less... Okay thx [br]Posted on: January 30, 2008, 10:53:26 pm
