Sci-fi books that need to be made into movies/tv-shows.

Want to say something off topic? Something that has nothing to do with Trek? Post it here.

I don't know about you, but I read quite a bit of sci-fi and I often think to myself that I would love to see this book/universe in a movie or on TV.

The one's I think would work really well are :
1. Frederik Pohl's Gateway (Heechee Chronicles saga). Starting with Merchants of Venus up to Heechee Rendezvous.
It would work because it covers a relatively short time-span but shows great advancement during this time. The topics in the saga are also extremely relevant today, from the environmental devastation of the planet (maybe not due to overcrowding) to the relationship between governments and corporate entities. The universe he creates is pretty realistic and believable in the way the characters act but it would of course need to be updated to the present day.

2. C.J. Cherryh's Union-Alliance series. I don't know if Joss Whedon ever read any of these books but I doubt he hasn't because firefly is pretty close to these stories. This would work for the same reason that firefly did and I don't think I need to go into more detail about that.

3. Joe Haldeman's Forever War. The "ant-starship troopers". You could start this novel off today and just substitute the iraq war for the vietnam war, it would work incredibly well as a movie but also as a TV show.
