Roll-Playing Threads

Has everyone lost interest in the roll playing threads?

No, but between going off the gird over Christmas and the new semester, I kind of lost track of it/them. Actually, I think I was really the only one trying  :sweatdrop:

I don't like playing that involves rolls, there's too much dizziness, or dinner pastries, you can never know which beforehand.

Well, I may try to turn some of these threads into online missions with specific objectives.  The only thing is, it would require the Cardassian Union, the Breen Confederacy (is that what it's called?), and the Tereanan Empire as fully playable factions.  Plus, some of the events are out of order and inaccurate.  So some parts will have to be redone.

I've dug up these three threads from the Database and I've put them in order on what year they SUPPOSEDLY start in.

Cardassia will Arise - 2389
- Factions involved are the Tereanan Empire, the United Federation of Planets, and the Cardassian Union.
- The Cardassians are trying to regain their power in the quadrant and take vengeance on the Domionion and the Tereanan Empire is suspicious of the Cardassian's research on Singularity technology, seeing it as a prelude to pulling Species-8472 into the galaxy.

Cardassain Betrayal - 2401
- Factions involved are the Tereanan Empire, the Trakans (introduction) and the Cardassian Union.
- The Tereanan flagship encounters a Borg cube that turns out to be captured by Cardassian "renegades."  The flagship threatens to destroy the cube the next time it's spotted.

The Borg Return - 2403
- Factions involved are just about everyone.
- An attempt by the Borg on Earth provokes the Tereanan Empire and the United Federation of Planets to wage war against the Collective and a new faction is hindering with the war effort.

I figure that if I make a series of missions with these threads, we can have some fun multi-player games that won't end with the complete destruction of a player, but will end based on an MMM script.

PS:  In the original threads, the Trakans are introduced in The Borg Return thread, but I wanted them to be introduced before that.

Perhaps, if more "Star System" maps could be devised, then a galactic star map could be drawn up with the territories of the FO factions included and then we could devise matches which featured successive battles based on how a campaign might be fought across the star map. eg. Klingons vs Federation... The Klingon team might feature Adm Zaxxon, Boggz and Myles while the Feds featured Tyler, Dom and Leet. Then a tug of war might be fought using one on ones which are organised and record via threads such as this.

So there may be five nominated star maps, ordered as follows:
Sol - Blah'de'blah - Blah'de'blah - star system exactly between the two - Blah'de'blah - Klingon home system

The match would start with Adm Zaxxon vs Tyler on "star system exactly between the two". whoever wins that determines whether the next match is played on "Blah'de'blah" nearer to Sol or "Blah'de'blah" nearer to "Klingon home system". Then Boggz and Dom duke it out to determine whether to move back to "star system exactly between the two" or to "Blah'de'blah" even nearer to one of t'other home world. If the home system is lost then the match is declared over. Potentially, it could be over in three battles or even more depending on the balance of players. If all five maps were generic ones then we, as a community, could dynamically create a Fleet Ops history based on the outcome of such matches! Epic stuff.

I actually thought about that it but i kinda thought it would be a lot of work to do.

There's a slight problem with what you are suggesting.  Some of these threads and missions involve the Cardassian Union.  And other factions that are not in Fleet-Ops.  Unless they are put into fleet-ops, some of the missions will be impossible.

Plus, I was thinking more in terms of some games not having any battles at all.  And only having certain units depending on the faction.  So regular matches won't happen very often.  It would require that maps accept the starting units on the map and not use the default units.

Overlooking the above statements, building a map could help us have a better understanding of where everything is.  However, I was thinking that we should use Stock A2 as it already has several of the necessary objects and features, so it won't take that much to mod the required factions into Stock A2 and to build the maps.

PS:  I will still consider Earth to be in the center of the Alpha Quadrant and not on the border of the Alpha and Beta quadrants.

If we work together to do this, we can get it done.

EDIT:
By the way, does patch project have the ability to have more advanced cloaking systems like the Romulan Supreme Cloak?

Which quadrant Earth is in doesn't really matter to a map, since they only have relative distance without formal borders.

well ive never seen tyler or zax online, and i think leet gamer gave up trying to fix tunngle, so he wont be online.

so that leaves me and boggz vs dom.

which if you focus on skill is boggz vs dom

they could just have a 1v1 now to decide it :P

Considering that it's going to be for patch project, I don't think Tunngle will be an issue.

The reason this is for patch project is because it has a feature that is required for this to succeed.  Although I would like to see fleet-ops add an online mission map type.

ah well, i dont have an install of armada 2 to play patch project games.

also a2 can be played over tunngle by pushing lan. there is still a tunngle room for armada 2 vanilla i think.

Tyler and Zaxxon have both played online before :) I've had a few games with both of them as I recall ^-^

I don't believe Patch Project includes any of those extra cloaking commands I'm afraid

Well, I can't use fleet-ops for this project because units can't be specified on a normal map and the special maps have been disabled.  So all I'm left with is stock Armada 2.  But last time I checked, absolutely no progress is being made in patch project.  Where are the new enhancements for mod developers and widescreen support you said would be in future releases.  There were no future releases of patch project.  All that was done was fixing some of the bugs in Armada 2 while adding minimal ODF commands to add a slight modding flexibility to Armada 2 with no intention of ever continuing patch project because how dare any project slows down the development of Fleet-Ops.
