Ok, so I was thinking. Why are the Feds called that?  It isn't really correct, cus in the game the Vulcains, or Klingons, or Andoreans or any of the other races arn't on the team, they are just Starfleet.  Ill let you decide If I'm correct.

I'd assume it's because they're going by "race"/Empire name rather than the name of the military of said empires - so the name of the empire is the United Federation of Planets, shortened down to just Federation, the same as the Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire and Borg Collective are shortened down to just Klingon, Romulan and Borg :)

well, i think the federation can be compared to the EU in some way(the fed members seem to stick together better than the EU members do)

so if the EU someday may have its own army that would be something like starfleet

and i think whoever would have to fight against this army would call that faction "the EU" and not whatever the army calls itself

so to me it doesn't sound that incorrect to call them feds

if we change the name of the feds to starfleet we will have to rename the dominion, romulan empire, and klingon empire as well.

better to leave things as is.

using that logic, we should re name them Humans. ^-^

what do we then do with andorian and vulcan members like spock..

hence the term federation is fitting by that very logic ;)

Yes, and Jem'hadar, Vorta, and Founders....  ^-^

Arn't there are jem'hadar, vorta, founder, and Breen ships in the dominion currently?  Any way, the borg are borg, klingons are klingons, romulans are romulans are romulans, but the humans are federation.  It just doesn't make sense IMO.

The humans plus all the other races are the Federation.

Exactly - the way I see it, they're not actually species names being used, they're contracted versions of the names of the empires - besides that, Starfleet isn't a Human-specific organization - there are Vulcans, Andorians, Benzites, Deltans, and who knows how many other species serving. Just because we see mainly humans on the shows doesn't mean much - we're seeing what, 5 ships out of potentially tens of thousands?

Also, please ignore my horrible sentence structure

@ Dominus Noctis:

but my point is, that in the game it is only the humans i.e. starfleet

@ Blazing,  but in the game you only see the human ships, even if there are non humans on the ships they are "Starfleet" ships.

Yes, the Federation Starfleet, not merely Human Starfleet. From Memory Alpha: "With the formation of the Federation in 2161, as per the Federation Charter, Starfleet and the deep-space exploratory and military services of the other member worlds were combined to form the Federation Starfleet. (DS9: "Inquisition"; ENT: "Detained", "Divergence"). "

The ships we see aren't human starships, they're Federation starships - heck, that's even how the captains introduce themselves - eg "I am Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the Federation starship Enterprise".

starfleet is not human only, i remember a ds9 episode about baseball, sisko an some other ds9ers play against a starfleet ship with a vulcan only crew ;)

to me it seems like the founding members of the fed chose the human starship design as a standard for starfleet, this makes sense in several ways: crew training, economical matters, compatibility...

this has never been mentioned on screen but its quite obvious

I'm talkin ship wise.  The federation consists of many races ships, however Starfleet ships are human made, which are the ones that are in the game.  It doesn't really matter tho, if I'm wrong I'm wrong.'

They're not human ships, they're Starfleet ships. Built by Starfleet, resources provided by the Federation, with shipyards all over the place. Starfleet=/=human. It's not a human organization, it's the military, defensive and scientific arm of the entire Federation.
