Next generation (music not Star Trek)
Want to say something off topic? Something that has nothing to do with Trek? Post it here.

Hello there, I've decided to share with you folks a bit of "social research" some of my friends conducted. When I 1st heard about it I was not that very interested, but after I saw it a few times with my own eyes I dropped my jaw.
So, to get to the point, I'm not a teen anymore, neither are my friends, but on occasion we still hang out if we get the chance, and one of us being a DJ, party maker, etc, and one a shrink, decided to take a closer look at the "new generation". Of course this was prompted by Mr. DJ -34-.
He told us that he uses all the new hits, and the kids don't really get that exited, he even had some lamer party's, 'till he decided to take a chance and dig up some old records, guess what: it was from the 80's and 90's. Now today that's call old music, lame, etc by youngster.
Well to make a long story short, he did not tell what it was he just mixed it in, and voila the place lit up.
If that had been only one occasion, you could say he got lucky, but the last 40 some party's where a major hit. Since then kids ask him who's that, what's the record etc.
And my point being ? Well,1st glad you still reading, 2nd that is today's music industry only an industry ? Can't the next generation not produce any lasting hit's anymore ? Or is all milked to the bone and nothing stands a chance ?
Tell me what you see, if you feel like it.
I'll part with some words I heard way way back when I was young :"Make up your own damn mind".
P.S: Being overworked, and dead beet tired this gave me a chance to take a break. So if I messed up some things forgive an old guy whom actually works for his daily bread, and does not go to daddy and mommy for a 100 bucks for snacks and stuff. --- not your shirt ? Don't get offended then -
Regards: Dex

well tho the results of playing 80's 90's music does not suprise me i'm not sure you can asume the new generation parties better on the older music.
i do think the general 80's 90's music speaks to a broader oudiance then more modern music where the music i think really needs to fit the audience more specificly, if you understand what i mean.
And i think the musice industry does just that, aim on a very specific audience and therefor there is a lot of music that some people love but other people hate or don't even understand

well im talking from birthdays, bigger party, clubs/pubs in city center to festifals. and about ages from 16 to about 28
maybe a certain festival where i go to most years is a good example, lowlands (in the netherlands), that festival has a very broad oudience, the real bands are mostly before midnight, after that only dj's and at the end most of the time something like 80's 90's music.
what i then see mostly is that early on the day only the ones that go to a specific band or music genre go to the bands/dj's so basicly everyone enjoys the music later in the evening everyone is walking around going to diferent bands but you also see people who can't find their genre so they often are less comfertable with the music, and you can recognize that in the dancing or whatever with the early dj's thats still the case but at the end with the older 80's 90's music really everyone prties to the music. That could ofcourse mean that just only those type of party people remain or they have had just enough booze to party to that, but to me it just apears the music speaks to a broader kind of people which i also see reflected in myself, my friends and people i meet there, i can get anyone to the 80's 90's music but not everyone to rock or metal music what i myself mostly listen.
