New Ship

Want to say something off topic? Something that has nothing to do with Trek? Post it here.

Check out this new ship for STO.
I like it. It looks badass. Nice sleek design.

Vigilant Class. Looks like the Defiant is getting a sister soon...

I do care, I just saw it on STO before you :P It's my least liked ship so far seen for STO.

:woot:

Looks like a cross between a defiant, and venture class. Valiant class if you wan't, but I think that one is a ripoff of the defiant anyway.  It would, make an exelent scout, or eraudi yard ship, but not as a battleship.

Yup, saw it too... I prefer only one breed of ship like that... and having the Prometheus as a Tier 4 vessel just smacks of sillyness to me

why do the starships get slower ? comon warp 9,5 is something that even a nebula class can beat ...

I'm not a massive fan of the Vigilant Class. It just seems like a Defiant ripoff.

As for it's 9.5 top speed, I would assume it may be due to the similar issues that the Defiant suffered with it's own top speed. If I remember rightly, for the Defiant, the warp core is overpowered for a ship of it's size, resulting in it practically tearing itself apart at high warp. I also remember something about the warp core being somewhat inefficient due to the fact that it had to be crammed into a such a small space and as such the Defiant's top speed was limited to Warp 9.5 even after diverting power from other systems but then, The Defiant (and presumably the Vigilant) is not designed to run quickly: It's designed to stand it's ground and fight.

I like her. She dose look sort of too much like the Defiant. But, I would imagine she has got like 8 times more firepower on her. Probably has 18 forward pulse guns, that astern, phaser arrays all over, and probably would be modified to also fire plasma, polaron, and tetryon weapons next to her phasers. Next thing you know this tiny ship not much larger than a small cargo vessel comes at you blazing with weaponry and just annihilates all of these dreadnoughts and other powerful vessels. I would totally captain one.

Overkill, even for a Warship. I doubt the weapons array will be that much bigger than a Defiants...size is still a limiter.

You know though, I think I'm starting to see a pattern in their designs here. The Excalibur looks like a Constitution. The Vigilant, Defiant. The Oslo looks sort of like an NX-01 and a Norway. The NX-91001 looks a lot like a Sovereign. Basically they take the old designs and spruce them up a bit and say they're new? Makes a bit of sense, but why not some totally new designs?

Either lack of creativity or their going with what works.

Too close to a defiant in my opinion and i dislike that design a little anyway

well it would mean starfeleet did the same mistakes at the vigilants desgin as at the defaint design ...something that proves the lack of creativity.

Not necessarily, the problems with the Defiant were internal (Engines, SI Fields etc) which could be completely different in this ship, just because a ship looks like another, doesn't mean it has any of the problems that one did.
