Modeling help

Want to say something off topic? Something that has nothing to do with Trek? Post it here.

I last night started working a modeling project of mine (as practice mostly not because i have a real use for it). Anyway I am modeling 5.54x49 NATO round.  I used a line to draw the view from the side and then applied a lathe to it as well as a smoothing modifier. The model itself looks great IMO but i am confused on how to do the UV unwrapping. I would like to be able to separate the line into different "groups" (i think thats what they are called) and then when i apply the lathe to it it would keep the groups so it would be easier to unwrap. By the way i am using 3ds Max 10. Anyway if any of you modelers have any advice for me i would appreciate it.

well i use maya, but as far as i know the lathe option is general, maya has a layers option to tick off what you want to apply an effect to and what not to. Not to sure on 3Ds Max 10 though, ill ask at my design college and get back to you.

ok from what iv heared, unless you do a group lathe, you have to do it indervidualy.
