Hi Everyone
Want to say something off topic? Something that has nothing to do with Trek? Post it here.

Hey All,
I just signed up here at Fleet Ops and thought I would say hi to everybody. I've been playing armada II for a few years, very sporadically but was a HUGE fan of the first one when it came out, especially all of the mods for the game. I discovered fleet ops for Armada II last year sometime and it blew me away. Never seen a better mod for an RTS.
I haven't played Fleet ops with anyone online before so if someone is up for a game, let me know. FYI, I probably suck at playing right now.
Cheers

Welcome to Fleet Ops. I'd play online, but all this talk of 'Tunngle' confuses me. Plus, it doesn't seem that active for a place with multiple people right now...

Hello and welcome oRpheus.
As Phoenix and Dominus have suggested, you should check the Fleet Ops Guide, staffed by Dominus and his equally awesome colleagues. Tonnes of material there for online etiquette and gameplay.
Phoenix's Astrometrics map database is also well worth checking for amazing maps by himself and other forum members.

The guide is enormous!
I'll take a look
I might be on tonight if time permits, so maybe I'll see you all on there.

Trust me... reading the guide will increase you multiplayer survival level by 38%. If you memorize all the critical parts, then maybe 46%.
The other 50% is all up to how you play and how fast you build. The unaffected percent is all dependent on chance.

If you join tunngle, which is very easy, and harm free, you will find alot of players, many of whom are learning

Don't worry about getting your arse kicked online either. I've been playing months online and winning for me is a rare event unless in a team game with good players on my side. The main thing is, when you do get your ass kicked, learn from your mistakes. Most opponents will be usually more than happy to dissect your mistakes and tell you what you could have done better.
When you go online, be sure to let your opponents know that you are new to the game. They may then go easy on you at the start, or offer you a practice game, or play as one of the races they are not so good with (only the very best are excellent with all races).
Also, you noted that Tunngle wasnt very busy when you went on. It fluctuates depending on day and time. A lot of players are in Europe and the US so the busiest times are when it is evening in those locations although it is possible to find people on around the clock. Weekends also usually provide plenty of opportunity to play.
Team games are quite popular which is also good for a beginner as the teams can be balanced so provide a more even game if people announce how good or bad they (think they) are. Also team games tend to be more fun.
Also, if a guy called Elim offers you a game, run for your life
