If you want some practice, going against 2 Hard (not merciless) AIs on the same team on "The Very First Map", while only operating on only 2 moon pairs, is a decent simulation of multiplayer aspects.  In theory, it forces you to learn how to make effective attacks with a small force, while having to defend your base at the same time.  Hope to see you online soon, and welcome to the forums.

Yeah, get hammered by Mal, Mort, DN or any combinations of the three.

It's one of those practical examples of the saying "what kills you (again and again and again) makes you learn or else".

 I don't have any sections that deal with the AI other than setting up game settings, and a one line comment in the Etiquette section as well as one in the "about the guide" section.  :sweatdrop:

Well, one disclaimer I should add is that it's not perfect, and what I've suggested isn't 100% where I would like it to be.  Back in 3.5a I used two hard AIs (back when Hard was Hard ) like this, and they were the same race, to figure out what strategies I should be trying in multiplayer.  It was pretty challenging, but beatable, but only with a good build order.  So if I had 5 things I wanted to try, and only 1 of them survived the test, I could being testing it in multiplayer and see how well it worked.  It usually ended up working similar to my AI games.

Currently, the set up I use now is kind of similar to what I had back then, but I find it a little too easy.  This might be good for new players, but I don't know.  It's still possible to turtle a bit with this one and build up a fleet of battleships.  With the 3.5a version you couldn't do that as well.  They'd swarm you with battleships from every side and overwhelm your defenses (unless you made 50 turrets or something) if you turtled.  I guess what I'm trying to say is, that while it's a good suggestion, it has its problems.  I'm not sure it would be something that is "guide worthy" just yet. :sweatdrop:  Also, the patch will probably change how the AI functions again, so I'll have to work on a new formula.  I wish they'd just go back to how it was in 3.5a though. :sweatdrop: Closest thing I ever saw to the AI simulating things that are important to multiplayer.
