Sg1 needed to end 3 seasons before it did.... well it needed a better story for the last three seasons. Universe and Atlantis should have ended better. I wonder if there will be another stargate. Maybe a movie?

I agree with Dircome's sentiments, and would like to expand on them a bit.

It's just as tragic when a show runs too long, as when it runs too short.  Bleach has been around for freaking forever, it's time for the author to find a new work.  The author of Naruto has been bringing it to a brilliant climax, it's just too bad the Anime keeps adding filler to appease the fans.  One Piece set itself up with a story so massive that it could easily take another 3-4 years to tell.

But then there are some like SG-1 that start to peter out.  A much stronger example is Babylon 5 (yes I went and watched it after I first heard about it on this forum)  It had a masterfully orchestrated plot that culminated in a massive finale of awesomeness...and then some idiot executive decided to make a 5th season even though there was NOTHING INTERESTING LEFT.  It was a sad way to go.

I think 7 seasons is the perfect length for any sci-fi show.  The makers need to have the foresight to plan it, the determination to see it through, and the self-control to stop when they reach 7.  TNG, DS9, and Voyager all had (relatively) satisfying endings at this point and never felt like they were overstepping themselves.  Like Marilyn Monroe, they died beautiful.

personally i was ok with the last few seasons of sg1, i'm not a fan of dissecting shows and trying to make some seasons less important than others.

sg1 had enough bottle eps to be able to continue. tng was almost all bottle eps, there was no real need to stop after 7 for tng. voyager was just tng further away, not all the eps in voyager required it to be on the other side of the galaxy, hence there are stories in voyager that could have worked in tng. shows that rely mostly on bottle eps don't really have a set expiry date.

i agree that if the show builds to a conclusion it should stop, but tng didn't build to all good things, everything was the same for 7 seasons, all good things was a bottle ep that just happened to be the finalé.

ds9 however built to the end of the dominion war, and it was fitting to end once they reached the end of the war. ds9 is the perfect example of a show that shouldn't have continued after the conclusion.

Ouch

Please inform better next time.

Bab5 was planed for 5 Seasons. But while making Season 4 it was not shure if the 5. will be made. Somehow it was never shure if there will be a next season.
So he (it was somehow one man who made the show) had to make an somehow good end. Ivanovna got another job when it was clear season 5 will be produced and he wouldn't have let Marcus gone. He said it.

The final Episode of Season 5 was made as the last episode of season 4. And the last one of Season 4 was fast made when it was clear, that season 5 will come.
But he had made some storyarcs end because he wanted a good end, so he could not use all he had planed for season 5. But I think Season 5 still workes.

@Topic (not named before)
Crusade (the moneypayers dealt even worst with the show then mit Bab5)
Space 2063 (could have been the platoon of the militaryscifiseries)
Angel Sanctuary (the story would need a lot more time and is far from beeing complete)

Here's more to add to the list. House is now officially in its final season. Alcatraz will only have one season so, no real conclusion unfortunately. And Terra Nova wont be comming back which makes it the highest rated(over 10 mil) finale of a canceled show ever(or atleast on Fox). Mainly because it was too expensive.

I too enjoyed watching Chuck everyweek.

Man... I didn't know they canceled terra nova.  Articles I read say that they are trying to find another channel to pick it up though.

I really hope they don't cancel Fringe.  :crybaby:

After season 2 House was all down hill. Or maybe season 3. I find the show to be mostly pretty shallow. (Yes, there are time to time funnies, but any group of writers can write a good funny here and there, the overall arch of the show though is kinda lame) Sort of the ER for a different demo, I guess.

Terra Nova wasn't that good either. I guess it was something to watch though.

Yeah, I hope they don't cancel Fringe. I wasn't really interested in it when it first aired, some of it I think is boring. But recently, some of the shows I've seen have actually been pretty good. Last season or so.

I wasn't aware terra nova was cancelled either i enjoyed that, had some good action scenes comparable to a movie budget. Hope it gets renewed somewhere.

I am not going to miss Terra Nova one bit.  It suffers from far to many WTF moments to be even remotely believable and I am not talking about time travel which I am perfectly fine with.  Supposedly they are super advanced but they don't even have motion sensors to tell them when someone is sneaking in or out of their very small compound with giant gaps in the walls.  Or the fact that they have a huge open field for several acres around their fort so any guard with some FLIR binoculars should easily be able to spot them.

Most of the episodes consisted of a couple of idiot kids going out into a world full of giant bugs and killer dinosaurs or some spy of the week sneaking out underneath their log walls.  It just drove me nuts to no end.  They also seemed to obsess alot over making sure that the leader was well liked and admired.  I guess they figured they needed to make sure that people knew this wasn't the same guy that was in  Avatar.

The show was just to stupid to continue in my opinion and hopefully something better will come along.

For my show that I wish had continued it has to be Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles.  I only started watching it when I had nothing better to do and I was surpised that it was actually a pretty good show despite the kid actor who plays John Connors.  Unfortunately I didn't found out till too late that it was cancelled which kind of made wathing the last few episodes a bummer cause I knew ahead of time it wasn't going to have an ending. :(

ENT was getting better and better but after the first two seasons I'd so utterly written it off I wasn't watching, and I don't think I'm the only die hard trek fan to feel that way. I remember seeing "save the Enterprise" banners online and just thinking why?
I had to be convinced to go back and watch it by a friend years later (then ended up seeing all the seasons in reverse order). So I'm sad that it went, but really they have themselves to blame. And that theme tune just pissed me off.

If they wanted to shake up the formula the could have tried a series from a different species perspective. It could have shown how the democratic expansion of the federation (read west in general) can appear threatening and imperialistic to other cultures. Especially how the darker tactics of Section 31 can ruin a reputation.

Alot of people seem to have the same feeling of a Star Trek show with the prespective of another species. I dont know how I feel about that, Star Trek is, and always has been, about OUR (mankinds) taking to the stars and going to explore the final frontier. Bringing out the best (and sometimes worst) of our nature. I feel it should stay that way, Star Trek is our future, our saga. Anyway I can see the coolness of getting more in depth about other cultures, but it just wouldnt be the same!

On the note of shows cancelled too soon, Enterprise is on my list, It got soooo much better. I also was peeved about the premature demise of Firfly and Terminator, the later got really good and so many questions were in need of being answered at the end of season 2. Major letdown.

Space above and beyond, and firefly would be my votes.

Space above and beyond went campy at times, but was decent. Just the studio politics made no sense.

Firefly I never understood why it was cancelled because itw as pretty decent.
