I've just started playing BGO recently :D and was wondering about others' experiences and thoughts.

I've been playing since the original beta, and man I love it. I haven't had much time for it lately as most of my friends have started up EVE online, so I'm spending most of my gaming time on there. It's really awesome, if lacking a bit in drive to play. During the beta, I never really got a chance for PvP, but my computer could barely handle it anyway. How are you enjoying it?

Yeah, so far for me PvP has been a pain. Not so much that it isn't available, more that i get completely destroyed  :pinch:
Apart from that, the storyline doesn't really seem to be very well done yet, although that's maybe to be expected from the beta. It all seems to be a lot of grinding levels >.>

Not the PvP is a pain in the ass. The control of the ship is it. :crybaby:
And some Missions are...

"Shot the Enemys down with your rockets".  I don't have rockets  :o :'(

Excuse this gratuitous meme reference, but... how do I shot rocket?  :whistling:

Am I the only one who'd love to see a good BSG strategy game? Forget about the MMO stuff, everyone does that today. Oh well, guess I'll be playing BSG mods for A2 until they make one.  :(

There are plenty of Games that have decent BSG mods, The Nexus ones are pretty good.

Not really RTS but still very fun with good graphics, Check out moddb and have a look for BSG mods.

BSG online is ok but tbh it's just gonna end up another lack luster MMO tbh.

Huh, see I've been playing with the open beta with the small amount of time I have to actually play games, and so far I am very impressed.  This is nothing like STO, imo.  First, it's free.  Hard to beat that. :D

Second, you'll only love it if you like PvP.  If you don't like PvP, then this game is not for you.  The viper combat is very intense, and you end up having real dogfights.  Probably the coolest aspect is that you can start pvping right from lvl 1 if you want, helping to defend the big line ships in fleet combat.  The game is more skill dependent than it is level dependent.  A lvl 6 can take out a lvl 12 if he's a better player.  That's something you don't really see in other games.

Third, there are 3 types of ships.  Strikes (fighters), escorts (middle of the road ships for line vessels), and line vessels (kind of like mini battlestars without fighters).  Each of these ship types have a tank, dps, and support, much like STO.  Unlike sto, strikes and escorts are still very important even in late game!  A high level viper that has upgraded weapons and modules can do serious damage to just about anyone.

Also, there is no one best setup.  Everything has a trade off.  You'll either be good against line vessels, but poor against strikes, etc.  What's nice is that sometimes you can offset your weaknesses by being a better player and anticipating.  Seriously, you have to be watching your opponent at all times in a dogfight and know what to do to match his maneuvers to get the advantage.  You can't just fly in circles and hope for the best.

Just remember that right now, this is a beta.  They're still adding and fixing things.  The feel of it is very BSG-like, whereas STO feels like some mutant alternate reality of Star Trek.  If you don't like shooting folks down and mixing it up in massive battles with up to 50 ships from each side engaging in a system, and you hate the thrill of just getting the jump off before 10 escort missiles slam into your ship from some toasters who thought it would be fun to spawn camp the entrance to the system, then this game is not for you.  But if you like PvP, dogfighting and the like, then get in a viper void the warranty on some toasters.  So say we all! :woot:

I like it.  There isn't much to it and the real trap is the cubits, but It seems pretty fun to me.  This is technically the first online multiplayer game I've played, so I don't really understand the squadron concept and how to join, but it really seems cool.

Theres a decent mod for Homeworld 2 that changes everything to BSG, its a pretty decent mod if you can get your hands on Homeworld 2. Its mainly a skirmish / multiplayer mod, but fun. On the note of Homeworld 2, thats prolly one of the best space RTS games you can get IMO, very underrated title, and the stock game alone has a very BSG feel to it.

Im going to guess that a squadron in BSG online is basicly a clan.

Basicly, you run around as a group, call people nubs, and use swarm tactics to kill everyone.
