I was wondering if it would be possible, to have a welcome message for people who open accounts on the forum.

Quite often, we see new players to fleetops who open accounts on the forum, and immediately make posts asking questions or brining up ideas or suggestions that have already been addressed solved, etc.

While this is not a bad thing, in fact it is a good thing that they are curious and active, and the people here are always very receptive and generous etc. i believe it makes sense that for everyone who opens an account to have a little welcome message, perhaps automatically sent to there inbox.

This would just be (of course) a welcome message, but would include a few key things for new people.
Such as:

*The game guide, a resource which can answer most questions players have thanks to the wonderful efforts of dom

*general forum eddicate and such, emphasizing such things as searching for posts with your same topic before you post, the important of forum sections

*the main goals of the forum, and the way this forum is structured; by this i mean the fact that really, we all treat each other respectufully in a way that i have never seen any other forum achieve, where all ideas are welcomed, and we basically self govern ourselves.

*important information reguarding how we do multiplayer, i.e. tunngle and teamspeak, with approprate links to the game guides

* maybe a small bit of history thrown in

I just feel that this would be a nice way to welcome new members and encourage them to stick arround and contribute in a positive way, while giving them useful information at the very beginning, that will enable them to have fun as quickly as possible, playing games on this beautiful fleetops mod.

Perhaps, a modified version of this could be included in game downloads as well.

I just feel like this could be a very nice touch, and of course with the devs approval and support, would be a great way to welcome new members.

Let me know about any thoughts or suggestions you may have about this.

Cheers!

Get a few established natives to translate the welcome message into different languages. Create a thread with each language version there.  The default message sent is in English but with a link to the thread will all the versions.  Presume most people have enough English to read "Hi, please follow the link to find this message in other languages".

First post on the thread should have quick links to each language to make it easier.

I was wondering if any of the devs had any opinions on this? or just anyone in general?

I started this thread a while ago, and i didnt really get that big of a response, i wanted to bring it up as today there was yet again, another example of why this could be somthing very usefull,

The new player, and joiner to the forum, first asked about the cardassians and species 8472, he was then given answered by people from the forum and directed to the game guide,

while that is all fine and good, i still belive a welcome message would be a very helpful thing that could help out everyone who is new to the forums and games, as we are seeing alot more people playing, and could help answer, or direct to answer alot of the common questions newer members have

For my basic outline, see the top post

You know, when a girl doesn't call you back anymore this is what you do:

You stop calling her and move on.

Nice boggz.....

i just dont see any negative to this, and i was hoping it would garner a littler more response, because i honestly think this would be really helpfull, if i was joining fleetops i would want somthing like this

Alot of games have things like this, such as tutorials, and welcome type things, i just feel it would be appropriate for us to have this as well

lol gratuitous bumping of a thread is cheap. if nobody replied it's cos nobody has anything to say, bumping it is just flogging a dead horse.

what u have suggested wont detract from fleetops, but its not a HUGE issue that needs bumping a lot.

about the idea, i think it should be in pm form, for all new users. giving simple advice, no more than a page long, with links to the guide and forum rules.

PM welcomes are used by many forums already, it wouldn't be out of place here.

And that is exactely what i am suggesting a pm containing basic information and links, i think would be very helpfull, i can even write it myself if the devs do not have the time to focus on something like that, and if they would like that, i just feel like its something simple that would be really quite nice for newplayers

well its not for new players, only for new forum members, as not all players use this site.

Understood, by new players i mainly mean forum users, as that is who it is targeted toward, and part of the aim of the welcome message would be to held them find stuff, so that we dont get alot of:

im new here, what about this race? or this thing?

However, in my original post in the topic and proposal, i mentioned putting a edited version of this when you download a new version of fleetops, that encourages people to join the forums, and even if they dont, just briefly explain some things, and shows them some helpful links and such to play the game better,
