Forum title?

Is it possible to implement a title system on the site?

E.g 5 posts earns you cadet.

Or as Dom has recently achieved 6000 posts earns you Vice. Admiral

etc etc

It seems unnecessary, especially because you can create your own title.  In my experience it doesn't really promote anything, and it occasionally causes elitism (not that that would happen in this great community).

All it would likely accomplish is spam... is it really necessary?

Oh gods no, please - last thing any of us needs is to be reminded daily how long we spend here 

Or at least grant an opt out option  . If this was in the interest of fun, I suggest the previous sentence, and if this was in the interest of finding out who is useful... well, I think that we know who is good at answering questions or helping regardless of how few or many posts that person has. All the post count shows then really is either how long that person has been here, or how quick to the punch they are.

Seems unnecessary to me. In my experience, it's only ever encouraged tossers to brag about their latest title and how much better they are than me because I'm too lazy and/or too busy to post more than something like 1 post a week.

Then there are the spammers.

we have had such a system not long ago, even with "pips" and stuff. but i tought the user display was too bloated, so i have removed the pips and pre defined forum title and join date in thread view. the predefined forum titles weren't much of use anyway

If I had a title, it would of course have to be "Grand Poombah Supreme".   However, I would settle on any title that is equally as noble sounding, such as "Flava Flav!"  I would then have an appropriate clock as my avatar.
