Wippien random disconnects

Here you can arrange online encounters and reminisce over past online battles.

I've been getting some random disconnects with wippien, and then it says it will reconnect in 10 seconds.  Is this me, and therefore my internet, or is anyone else getting this as well?

Yes, this seems to be happening every once in awhile to certain people. So far Mort and Boggz have both experienced this... not sure whether it is server side (aka, switch to a different account) or caused by some settings being off... Today I also experienced some issues, but my net was being taxed by about 325873298230 people sending me messages at the same time asking if I had seen the news...  :whistling:

Actually this stopped happening to me when I made sure I had a static IP address of my own on my router.  I share wireless with my roommates and having a set IP and everything that goes with it basically solved that problem.

I do, however, still have the problem of having VPN with maybe 50% of the players online but that's another story ... I no longer get random disconnects except on rare occasion.  If that does work ... try uh .... uh ......

  uhhhhh ..... ???

I had these problems too, usually in middle of a game...
I found the problem to be in the wippien configuration. There is a handy option called "Update and restart application silently", which is enabled by default, I believe. I haven't had problems after I disabled that.

I have this problem too, sometimes it will disconnect me and not let me back in.

Suggestions in case this still isn't working:

  • STATIC IP ADDRESS:
Wireless users especially.  Make sure your IP address is set manually and always at the same one so that you have a designated address.
  • RECHECK THE GUIDE:
Make sure that you have set everything up correctly according to the Wippien section of the Guide.  Sometimes little administrative things we do can screw those settings up without us knowing.  Always make sure to remember to "route -f" and restart.
  • FIREWALL / PORTS:
Port forwarding is a little more difficult for me, and I believe Wippien auto-forwards your Ports, but make sure that Wippien has access through your Firewalls and your Anti-Virus programs.  Every once in a while they might update themselves and reset their functionality.
  • REPAIR, RESTART:
When in doubt, repair your connection or restart your computer.  Turn A2 off before you start Wippien.  Begin Wippien and see how many VPN's you can establish.  Sometimes you'll get half and sometimes you'll get full.

For example:  I, Boggz am on a wireless router.  If I set my IP address to be 192.168.1.106, I get nearly 100% VPN connectivity and never drop my connection to Wip.  If I'm on any other IP from my router I get little to no connectivity with VPN's and my Wip has a habit of "recycling" like you have described, Mal.

I noticed that my other IM clients lose the connection with jabber.org server quite often. Sometimes when I have lost the connection with the server when using wippien, that haven't affected active vpns. I wonder do those who use gmail or wippien server have similar problems too.
